Grade 6

Over the past two weeks, our Grade 6 students have been busy engaging in a range of exciting learning experiences across the curriculum.

In Literacy, we have begun reading A Ghost in My Suitcase by Gabrielle Wang. Students are thoroughly enjoying the novel and learning about aspects of Chinese culture as they follow the journey of the main character. The story has sparked thoughtful discussions and curiosity about family, identity, and cultural traditions.

In Writing, students have started exploring persuasive texts. They are investigating why understanding family history is important and developing arguments to support their viewpoints. This learning connects closely with our class novel, as the protagonist uncovers stories and experiences from her relatives' pasts.

In Mathematics, students are learning all about probability. Through hands-on activities and real-world examples, they are exploring the likelihood of different events occurring. There is a high probability that by the end of the unit, students will be confidently calculating and explaining the chances of everyday events!

In Humanities, students are putting the finishing touches on their projects about countries in the Asian region. They have worked hard researching geography, culture, traditions, landmarks, and daily life, and are looking forward to sharing their learning.

Students have also continued to enjoy spending time with their Prep buddies. Most recently, they shared the National Simultaneous Storytime-inspired book Luna Roo, enjoying the opportunity to read, discuss, and complete activities together. These buddy sessions continue to foster positive relationships and provide valuable leadership opportunities for our Grade 6 students.
