Prep Art – Exploring First Nations Stories
This term in Art, our Prep students have been learning about First Nations Peoples and the importance of storytelling in Indigenous cultures.
We enjoyed reading Too Many Cheeky Dogs, a vibrant story written by Indigenous author Johanna Bell and illustrated by Dion Beasley. Inspired by the artwork in the book, students explored different colour paints and techniques to create their own textured papers, which were then used to make colourful collage artworks.
Students also learned about Bunjil the Eagle, an important creator spirit in the traditions of the local Wurundjeri people. Through this story, children explored the significance of Country, culture, and the role of storytelling in passing knowledge from one generation to the next.
It has been wonderful to see our young artists engage with these stories and express their learning through creative and meaningful artworks.
