Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Term 2 Wrap Up

Kitchen Garden Update: A Sizzling Term 2!

What a fantastic, flavour filled term we have had in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program! Our students have been busy growing, harvesting and, most importantly, cooking up a storm.

Here is a look at what we got up to this term, plus some important news for the second half of the year.

What’s New in the Kitchen?

Thanks to some wonderful new additions to our kitchen, we were able to expand our culinary horizons this term:

  • New Equipment: We purchased two brand-new electric frying pans, which allowed students to safely simmer and sauté their creations under close parent supervision.
  • Skill Building: A major focus this term was knife safety. Students practised holding and using kitchen knives safely, mastering their chopping skills on a colourful array of fresh ingredients including apples, capsicums, onions, zucchinis and chicken.

Our budding chefs put these skills to the test to create three delicious recipes:

  1. Chicken Kebabs
  2. Classic Fried Rice
  3. Apple Slice

A Huge Thank You to Our Volunteers!

This program simply cannot run without the incredible support of our community. A massive thank you to our hardworking volunteers who give up their time to guide the students, wash the dishes and help us bring the pure joy of cooking to our kids. You are the secret ingredient to our success!

Looking Ahead: Term 3 & Term 4 Plans

Please note that Term 3 will be our last chance to cook this year. We will be taking a break from the Kitchen Garden program in Term 4 so that everyone can focus their energy on the upcoming School Fete! We are also booking in a session for the Prep class in Term 3. See the details below.

🌟 Exciting Opportunity: We Need a New Kitchen Leader for 2027! 🌟

As the wonderful Emma will be stepping down at the end of this year, we are looking for an enthusiastic parent volunteer to take the reins of organising the recipes and cooking for next year.

Want to see what it’s all about? The perfect opportunity to shadow Emma and get a feel for the role is during our upcoming Term 3 sessions. Come along, see how the magic happens and help us keep this incredible program running for our students next year!

If you are interested or have any questions, please email me directly. We would love to have you on board!
