Learning and Curriculum Primary - Stage 3

It is pleasing to see students have settled back into their learning this term. Again, teachers will report on the following student attributes across all Key Learning Areas. It would be beneficial to have discussions at home on how students rate themselves in each of these areas.

  • Application: A student’s degree of readiness to find purpose in his own learning, readiness to work independently, and ability to direct his own academic growth.

  • Commitment to Study: A student’s diligence in the completion of classwork, assignments, homework, revision, and/or assigned study.

  • Conduct: The degree to which a student is cooperative and polite towards the teacher and his peers, demonstrating courtesy and respect.

  • Engagement: The level to which a student actively participates in class activities and asks and responds to questions.

  • Responsibility: The extent to which a student is punctual, prepared and organised for lessons.

Year 5 History – Building a Nation

In this unit students explore the journey of the Australian colonies toward Federation. Students examine and describe the development of Australian colonies and Australia as a nation, using sources as evidence by analysing the economic and social motivations of the late 1800s, the significance of the Constitution and the evolution of national symbols. The unit highlights the roles of key individuals and groups, both those included and excluded from the democratic process, to understand how their actions shaped the Commonwealth.

Year 6 History - Reviving Voices: The Journey to Reclaim Aboriginal Languages

This unit teaches students the skills required to investigate the connections between Aboriginal languages in their local area and across NSW, as well as the impact of colonial interactions on language documentation. By examining the role of Aboriginal Knowledge Holders in revitalising languages and the significance of re-establishing Aboriginal place names, students learn how Aboriginal Peoples celebrate their languages and cultural practices today.
