Careers and Pathways

Term 3 is always a big one in Careers & Pathways, see all about what we’ve been up to and what’s to come below.
Welcome Back Liam!
Careers & Pathways has grown over the holiday break with Liam returning to Edgars Creek! As well as teaching, Liam will be available for careers counselling, job seeking advice, course applications, and any other Careers & Pathways support you might need.
Year 12 VTAC Applications
VTAC applications are the biggest and busiest time of year on the Careers & Pathways calendar. Careers & Pathways supports all our Year 12 students in their post-school pathways and transitions, and while there are many different application methods and pathway options available, the vast majority of students will be utilising VTAC.
VTAC works to very strict deadlines, these have been communicated with all students via briefing presentations and noticeboard posts. See below for a summary of upcoming deadlines and important dates.
As you can see, VTAC is now open for registration and applications. Students who intend to utilise VTAC should register their account, submit a preliminary course application and pay the application fee before September 29 to avoid late fees.
Students who intend to apply for special considerations (SEAS) and/or Scholarships will need to submit their applications, including all required evidence, by October 10. Careers & Pathways are offering appointments exclusively to Year 12 students during Term 3 to support.
VTAC Accessibility
VTAC has refreshed their portal this year, and while there have been some great improvements, there are also a few bugs. The most impactful being, many students have been unable to register or access their VTAC accounts on the school network. VTAC and DET are both looking into the issue, but in the meantime it has been suggested that students use an incognito window, clear their cache or refresh their browser. If students are still having trouble accessing VTAC on the school network, we ask that they let Careers & Pathways and IT know, and also encourage them to submit the issue to VTAC as well.
Other Year 12 Applications
Not all students will be utilising VTAC for their post-school applications, but we are supporting these students as well.
For students intending to submit direct applications to tertiary institutions:
Careers & Pathways is available to assist students in making these applications. Students are welcome to book an appointment or walk-in for this support.
For those students seeking employment, apprenticeship or traineeships:
We have invited MEGT to attend the college later this term to present to and support students. MEGT are an apprenticeship and traineeship seeker support service with access to exclusive job boards and able to provide advice to young job seekers. Dates and times are soon to be confirmed and will be communicated to students shortly.
Kangan Future Options Events
Our Year 9 and 10 students have been invited to attend the Kangan Future Option events this year. The Future Option events allow students to explore a range of different career areas through interactive workshops and activities led by Kangan Educators. Students have been invited to submit their expression of interest online and, once approved, have been added to the Compass events. If you haven’t already, please check Compass for any outstanding consents, the events are free to attend.
Docklands - Automotive
7 August
Students explored the state-of-the-art Automotive facilities at Kangan Docklands campus and participated in a variety of activities from the Mechanical, Auto Electrical and Motorsport disciplines. All students had the opportunity to complete an under bonnet and lighting check, remove & refit a wheel and read & adjust the air pressure in a tyre.
Essendon - Health Care
27 August
Kangan Essendon is their current health care hub. Kangan has invested many resources into their fields in recent years and offers a wide variety of courses. Our students participated in workshops from their Pathology, Nursing, Allied Health and Individual Support disciplines. All students had the opportunity to practice their nursing skills by reading blood pressure & blood oxygen levels, their individual support skills by utilising a lifting machine, familiarise themselves with allied health supports by experiencing mobility in a wheelchair and on crutches, and observe a day in the life of a pathology collection technician.
Cremorne - Hairdressing, Beauty, Fashion & IT
28 August
Students braved an early morning start to attend the Cremorne Future Options event which saw students participate in workshops from one of these 3 options. Hair & Beauty, Fashion Design and IT & Cybersecurity. Each set of workshops was vastly different but provided students with the opportunity to either practice their hair styling & manicure techniques, fashion design & sewing practice, or web hacking and coding skills.
