Middle School Report

As we move further into the term, I’d like to take a moment to highlight some important reminders, share celebrations, and look forward to the exciting opportunities ahead for our students.
Ready to Learn Every Day
A successful school day begins with being prepared to learn. Students are reminded to:
- Arrive with their device fully charged,
- Bring their workbooks and writing materials, and
- Ensure they have the stationery they need to engage productively in class.
These simple habits help maximise learning time and ensure every student is ready to participate fully.
Lockers and Student Safety
We ask that all students use locks on their lockers. This keeps personal possessions safe, including mobile phones, and allows students to focus on learning without concern for their belongings.
Attendance Matters
Congratulations to those students maintaining a high level of attendance, your commitment to being at school every day is setting you up for success.
It is important to note that attendance below 90% means a student is missing the equivalent of one day every fortnight, which adds up to around 20 days across a year. This can significantly impact both learning outcomes and future opportunities. Families are encouraged to support consistent attendance so students can thrive academically and socially.
Year 9 Innovations Program
Our Year 9 students are continuing with their Innovations work, which will include the City Experience and our College Community Fete. These experiences provide authentic opportunities to apply learning in creative and meaningful ways, and we look forward to seeing the fantastic ideas they bring forward.
Early Access to VCE
Students who have applied for Early Access to VCE will be advised shortly. We look forward to supporting these students as they begin their VCE studies while still in Year 10, a significant step in their academic journey.
Inaugural College Awards Evening
We are delighted to announce our Inaugural Awards Evening, which will be held on Wednesday, 17 December 2025 at the Plenty Valley Arts & Convention Centre.
This special event will be an invite-only celebration, with invitations sent in December to the families of award nominees.
The evening will be an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the achievements and efforts of students across our school community who have excelled in their learning, leadership, creativity, and commitment throughout 2025.
We look forward to sharing this memorable occasion with our award recipients and their families as we come together to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of our students.
Celebrating the Performing Arts
Congratulations to all our Middle School students who took part in the production of The Addams Family. The performance was wonderful, beautifully presented by our talented students and supported by our dedicated production staff. The feedback has been outstanding, with local schools also commenting on how much they enjoyed attending. This production has been a true celebration of creativity, collaboration, and excellence.
I encourage all students to keep building on these achievements, stay prepared for learning, and take every opportunity to participate in the rich experiences our school community provides.
Warm regards,
Samantha Smith

Year 7 – Connections
Curriculum Update
So far in term 3 we have seen some amazing work completed by our Year 7 cohort with students actively engaging in their subjects and receiving excellent marks for the CATS and assessments. The Year 7 students began the term with new selectives in the Performing Arts and Visual Arts subjects, as well as Digital Technology and Design. The students are currently working through a number of assessments and showing their development in study skills as the term progresses. The Year 7 cohort have lots to look forward to in their classes as semester 2 continues with many learning opportunities across all subjects.
Student Led Conferences
The Year 7 Leadership Team and the teaching staff were very happy to see so many Year 7 students attending the Student Led Conferences with their families to discuss their progress in class and set goals for semester 2 based on their semester 1 reports. Thank you to all families who attended on the day or contacted teachers via phone or email to discuss student progress and celebrate their achievements so far this term.
Production
We would like to congratulate all of the Year 7 students who participated in the Production this year. The students have shown dedication and team work during the rehearsal process throughout the year and represented the College with pride as they performed for the school and local community across two weeks. We would also like to congratulate all students who supported backstage, assisted with costumes and supported with set design/construction.
Ice Skating
This week, Year 7 students attended Ice HQ to celebrate their efforts so far this term. The students attended across two days and participated in an exciting day of skating with their peers.
Soccer Program/Regionals Team
The soccer program has continued during term 3 with students participating in training every Friday morning with a professional coach. We wish the Year 7 soccer team the best of luck as they attend the Regional Finals on Friday August 29th representing Edgars Creek Secondary College.
With the semester continuing and the Year 7 students now half way through term 3, the Year 7 Leadership Team look forward to continuing our work with the Year 7 students and would like to thank the families of the Year 7 students for your ongoing support and engagement in their learning.
Regards,
The Year 7 Leadership Team
Year 8 – Community
As we settle into the winter season of Term 3, we are proud to share some highlights from Year 8. Our students have been busy learning, performing, and competing, and it has been wonderful to see their talents shine both inside and outside the classroom.
Production Success
A huge congratulations to our Year 8 students who did an amazing job in the recent school production. Their dedication, teamwork, and creativity brought the performance to life and made it a memorable experience for all who attended. We are incredibly proud of their efforts on stage and behind the scenes.
Elevate Study Skills Workshop
Fifty Year 8 students were nominated by their teachers to take part in the Elevate Education study skills workshop. This program focused on building effective study habits, time management, and strategies to support independent learning. Students who attended walked away with practical tools they can apply to their studies both this term and into the future.
Sporting Achievements
Year 8 has had a strong presence in sport this term, with several teams representing ECSC across different competitions.
- Teams competed in basketball and athletics, showing great skill and sportsmanship.
- Our boys’ netball and soccer teams made it all the way to the regional stage, which is an outstanding achievement.
We commend all students for their commitment and effort in representing our school.
Preparing for Year 9 – Subject Selection
This term, Year 8 students have begun the exciting process of selecting their selective subjects for Year 9. During mentor group sessions, students have been guided through the subject selection process, exploring the wide range of opportunities available to them next year.
These discussions have helped students reflect on their interests, strengths, and future pathways, while also learning about how their choices link to senior school and beyond. Teachers and mentors have provided advice and support to ensure that each student is making informed decisions.
We encourage families to continue these conversations at home to support students in choosing subjects that match their passions and goals.
Looking Ahead
As the term continues, we encourage students to keep applying themselves in their studies and make the most of every opportunity, whether in the classroom, on the sporting field, or through creative expression.
Warm regards,
The Year 8 Leadership Team
Year 9 – Innovations
Operation Newstart
Over the past few months, a number of Year 9 students have had the opportunity to take part in Operation Newstart, an innovative outdoor program designed to re-engage young people with their learning. Through a series of challenging activities such as hiking, team building, and skill-based projects, students were able to build resilience, develop leadership qualities, and grow their confidence in a supportive environment.
City Experience 2.0
Another exciting highlight was City Experience 2.0, where students travelled to O’Brien Icehouse in Docklands to take part in ice skating. For many, this was their first time on the ice, making it a memorable and fun challenge. The day allowed students to spend time together in a different setting, strengthen peer connections, and experience the buzz of the city while engaging in a unique recreational activity.
Forensics Excursion at Quantum
Some students also had the opportunity to attend a Forensics Excursion at Quantum, where they were tasked with exploring a simulated crime scene and solving a mystery. This hands-on experience gave them a fascinating insight into the world of forensic science, encouraging problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork. Students were able to see how science is applied in real-life scenarios and walked away with a greater appreciation of investigative skills.
Pat Cronin Foundation
All Year 9 students took part in the impactful Pat Cronin Foundation incursion, which highlighted the seriousness and consequences of getting involved in physical altercations. The presentation shared Pat’s story and educated students on the dangers of violence and the importance of making safe choices.
Subject Selection/Resume Writing
Recently in Innovations lessons, Year 9 students have been focusing on subject selection in preparation for Year 10. This process encouraged them to reflect on their strengths, interests, and future career pathways. In addition, students participated in resume writing workshops, where they developed the skills needed to create a professional and effective resume.
As we near closer to the end of Term 3, the Year 9 Leadership Team is looking forward to continuing our work with students for the rest of the year, supporting them as they learn, grow, and prepare for the next stage of their journey.
Regards,
The Year 9 Leadership Team
