Principal's Report

I would like to begin this edition of our newsletter by acknowledging the efforts of all students and staff at Edgars Creek Secondary College for their commitment to continued school improvement.
This term, we have seen a marked improvement in the respect our students are showing for their environment, which is now evident across the college in the way we approach learning. At student-led conferences, students engaged in feedback and set meaningful goals to enhance their learning growth. In addition, our weekly PLC meetings ensure that teachers and support staff are continually planning, reviewing, and developing lessons and curriculum that meet the specific needs of every learner.
Ready to Learn
As we conclude the term, the leadership team has been focusing on how we can better support students in being ready to learn. In practice, this means families working with us to:
- Support students to get adequate sleep and that screen time is limited by devices being switched off or on silent at least 30 minutes before bed.
- Having laptops and digital devices fully charged for the next day.
We also encourage families to check their child’s workbooks, pencil cases, and other school materials to ensure they are prepared for every lesson. These small but important steps help set students up for daily success.
Musical – The Addams Family
Congratulations to the students, staff, and families involved in this year’s production. It was a marvellous showcase of talent and creativity, and truly a highlight of the year. I am immensely proud of all involved and look forward to what 2026 will bring from our performing arts team.
Parent/Guardian/Caregiver Survey
Our Parent/Guardian/Caregiver Survey is now open. Gathering your feedback is essential as it provides valuable insights to shape the future direction and improvement of our school. Please look out for my post on Compass and, if possible, set aside 40 minutes to complete this important survey. A big thank you to those who have already responded.
Electives and Pathways for 2026
Students in Years 9, 10, and 11 are currently making subject selections and committing to their VCE Year 12 pathways for 2026. This is an important stage in our planning for next year, as it allows us to offer a wide breadth of subjects and programs that meet the diverse needs of our students.
Preventing and Addressing Racism
Edgars Creek Secondary College is committed to fostering a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where racism is not tolerated. Racism harms students’ mental health, learning, and sense of belonging. We are proud to celebrate the diversity of cultures, ethnicities, and faiths within our school community, and it is the responsibility of all of us to ensure that our college remains a place where every student feels respected and supported.
Please take time to view our policy and discuss its importance with your child:

Family Holidays and 2026 Intentions
A reminder that family holidays during term time must be approved by the Principal. An absence learning plan will also need to be developed to ensure continuity of learning.
Families intending to exit at the end of the year are asked to notify their child’s coordinator in writing so that transition processes can begin. If you are planning overseas travel during the December/January break and your child’s return date is after the start of Term 1, please inform us in advance.
Please note that school funding is based on students being present from the first day of the school year and not being absent for more than five days before February 28th.
Best wishes,
Adam Smith
College Principal
