Mitcham Primary School has been celebrating Indigenous Literacy Day!
Indigenous Literacy Day was on the 6th of September and here at Mitcham we celebrated it all week!
This year the theme was: Strength In Our Stories: For Now & Future Generations.
“The Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) is a national charity of the Australian Book Industry, working with remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities across Australia.
We are Community-led, responding to requests from remote Communities for culturally relevant books, including early learning board books, resources, and programs to support Communities to create and publish their stories in languages of their choice.”
Indigenous Literacy Day was a great opportunity for teachers, students and the community to connect to the country, learn about literacy within Indigenous cultures and communities and enhance knowledge of Indigenous language. Students participated in learning activities and experiences such as the read aloud session, a free film and livestream of Indigenous content.
