Term 3 has been an exciting time at Mitcham Primary School. Our Preps celebrated 100 days of school, and Book Week brought the wonderful Cardytoons Incursion and our popular Dress Up Day, showcasing the creativity of our students and families.
Our Mitchkids playgroup remained a great connection point for our community, and we also welcomed our incoming 2026 Prep families through the start of our formal Transition sessions. The Grade 3/4 Camp was a highlight for our middle years, giving many students their first experience away from home. This term also brought some wonderful sporting achievements in Interschool Sport, Cross Country, and Athletics.
Across the school, we have seen wonderful growth in learning. Our strong literacy results are a reflection of both student effort and teacher expertise, while in Mathematics our focus on sequential concrete, pictorial, and abstract learning has been central to student success. The Parent Information Session on “Maths at Mitcham” was also a highlight, giving families valuable insights into the approaches we use and how they can support learning at home.
The Father’s Day Stall was another much-loved event, and I thank our FUNdraising coordinator, Aysha, and the team of parent helpers for making it such a success. The standout of the term was undoubtedly the Grade 5/6 Shrek Production. It really was an incredible showcase of talent, creativity, and teamwork. Congratulations to Miss K, the 5/6 teaching team, and our supportive parents who made it possible.
On the facilities front, the Junior School Toilet Upgrade is well underway, new flooring for Prep classrooms and Block A will be completed in the holidays, and exciting additions to the Gentle Play Space, Fairy Garden, and Ninja Playground are coming soon.
Exciting News for the Heuston Family!
We are thrilled to share some wonderful news with our school community. Our much-loved Prep and Art teacher, Kate Heuston, along with her husband Tim and their son Louis, will be welcoming twins into their family in February!
This is such a special and joyful time for Kate and her family, and we know our community will join us in congratulating them on this exciting new chapter.
Thank you to our staff, families, and students for making Term 3 so rewarding. I wish you all a restful and enjoyable holiday break.
Warmly,
Erin
