2026 Youth Advisory Board Forum
On Tuesday 10 March, we went to our first workshop at the 2026 Youth Advisory Board (YAB) Forum, which was run by Member of Parliament Jason Yat‑Sen Li. Mr Li organised this program as a Member of Parliament because he wanted to receive the youth point of view in today’s society and how we were feeling about what’s going on in the world today. We, along with participants from eight other schools in the Strathfield area, were invited to go to the Australian Catholic University (ACU) and talk to each other about the issues that young people these days are facing and ways that we can resolve them.
We were all split into four groups to brainstorm different ideas that we thought were the top issues currently affecting young people in our local area today. Mr Li wanted to start this program by speaking about the local area, as if we communicate with each other and come up with a great idea for young people today, he may decide to take the idea further into government discussion.
After we brainstormed our ideas, we all came together as one group and shared them with each other to narrow it down to a single idea, which we decided was “stereotypes.” We decided, as a group from many different perspectives, that if we can figure out a way to stop stereotypical abuse, we can help our local society by showing that everyone is equal. If you get to know people from different races or religions, you start to realise that not everyone needs to be the same because people have different beliefs and ways of living, and everyone, no matter what their beliefs and physical characteristics are, should be treated equally.
We really enjoyed this experience as it helped us develop an understanding of everyone’s perspectives on today’s world and gave us new insights after hearing what others had to say.
