Strathfield Council ANZAC Day Poetry and/or Art Competition

All students in Years 5 and 6 are warmly invited to submit an entry for the Strathfield Council ANZAC Day Art and/or Poetry competition. As per the reminders in the daily announcements, students can submit a poem, an artwork, or both to Mrs Tatola by Monday 23 March. Entries will then be forwarded to Strathfield Council for judging.

Year 5 Science

Year 5 have been exploring the growth and survival of living things, and how they adapt over time to suit their environment. Students have discovered that it can be hard to imagine how any form of life could survive in the extreme temperatures of a desert environment, yet even in such places, an amazing diversity of plants and animals can still be found. Their structural features and adaptations not only help them to survive but thrive under these conditions.

Students are linking their knowledge of adaptations with literacy as they prepare to write an imaginative text that takes place in either Antarctica or the Sahara Desert. Students are required to write a narrative, diary entry or short story from the perspective of a future scientist following the Freytag’s model below:

Year 6 Science

This term, students have explored our planet, solar system, and the universe. Since our trip to the Deep Space Centre in Canberra earlier this term, students have been encouraged to comprehend the vast distances in the universe and understand Earth, its position in the solar system and its role as a dynamic part of a complex, interrelated system.

Year 6 are currently working on their assessment where students are required to create an informative posterthat visually and textually explains the similarities and differences between Earth and one other planet. We look forward to sharing some of the wonderful work that the students create.
