Specialist Subjects

Japanese
Students will learn Japanese greetings and action words related to learning routines in the classroom. We will utilize flashcards, slide shows, games and chants to support our learning. Students will interact within the classroom using common Japanese greetings, phrases and verbs for making commands and requests, such as “stand up” and “stand up, please”. For this purpose we will use grammatical patterns, such as “please” or ください (kudasai), with action words.
Digital Technologies
Students this term are using LEGO Spike to solve more difficult coding challenges. They will build complex models and use logic—like loops and sensors—to make their robots react to the world around them. Students will focus on testing their ideas, finding errors, and improving their designs to complete specific missions.
Art
Students will engage in Visual Arts by exploring the elements of art which include line, shape, texture, space, colour, colour value (gradient) and form. They will use these to begin exploring portraits, and how we can present portraits in abstract ways. Different skills such as making lines and patterns and continuous line drawings will be used to explore how facial features can be represented. They will be inspired by the work of Frida Kahlo, Matisse and Van Gogh, amongst others.
