Mathmatics

In Maths, we have been reviewing different types of data sets and methods of interpreting information in statistics. We have been looking at a range of graphs such as column graphs and dot plots, as well as answering questions about their data. We are also looking at shapes and how they can be categorised and transformed. We will also continue looking at and reviewing our knowledge of whole numbers and place value in our daily reviews and in more detail towards the end of the term.

Every day, we have been looking at NAPLAN style questions and using the CUBES strategy to break down worded problems. We are also looking at how to work through multiple choice questions and how to strategically eliminate wrong answers. For continued fluency, we are reviewing our times tables every week and engaging in the daily review of number sense skills we have learned in previous years.

The school has purchased a subscription for an online tool, Maths Online, for Year 5 students to use at school as well as part of Home Learning, to consolidate mathematical concepts taught and to develop fluency in times tables and number sense skills. Students have been given their own username and password.
