Cloven Hills Rower of The Week

I am excited to announce Zoe Bell, as the Rower of the Week. Zoe is always kind to others around the shed and has impressed the coaches with her ability to listen and take feedback.

Zoe has shown determination to improve her rowing ability and consistently demonstrates respect for other rowers with a big smile on her face. Her kind attitude and versatile ability to row and cox demonstrate her hard work.

Zoe always puts in the effort, on and off the water. Congratulations Zoe.

Last weekend, College rowers and families enjoyed a fun day-out regatta at Lake Hamilton. During the opening day, rowing parents challenged the college mixed eight, successfully crossing the finish line under the guidance of Coxswain Mr Horne.

The Female Under-18 Quad scull had further success, as did the Male Open Quad/Four, Open Single and Double Sculls, and Mixed Quad events.

This weekend, rowers head to the Barwon River for the annual Sacred Heart Schoolgirls regatta. Year 7 to 10 students race against some of Victoria's strongest crews in a 1500m river event.

Cricket

ICCES Summer Tour

In October, our girls' and boys' cricket teams travelled to Ballarat to compete in our first game against Braemar College.

With the top three batters, Pippa Williamson, Grace Potter and Tilly Potter, all retiring within the first few overs, quickly followed by more outstanding batters, we were off to a perfect start and soon were at around 95 runs off nine overs. Going into a bowl, we were only working with those nine overs, perfect for giving nearly everybody on the team a chance to have a bowl. We secured our first win for the day with solid fielding displays and outstanding bowling from each girl, including a hat trick and multiple other incredible wickets.

Our second and third games were much the same, with beautiful batting displays from our openers Sophie Spence and Holly Quinn (second game) and Grace Potter and Liv Read (third game), and a strong bowling lineup that secured two more wins for the day.

Our final game was a little more challenging. We faced a solid team with many skilled cricketers. After losing the toss and being put to bat, we seemed to be up against some fast-paced and trained bowlers. With early wickets leading to a rocky start, we had to put up a good fight in the field. But after some superb bowling, specifically from Grace Potter and Xar Christie-Hill, and some incredible fielding, we again secured our final win, winning the entire ICCES summer tour girls competition.

Standout players on the day included Grace Potter, Xar Christie-Hill, Pippa Williamson, and Sophie Satchell. They were praised for their incredible attitude towards the game and their on-field displays of their skills and passion for the game.

The biggest thank you goes to the girls; we couldn’t have done it without you. Particular thank yous also go to Mrs Williams, Max St John, Mr Alexander, and Miss Dixon. We wouldn’t have been able to travel, compete, or fill teams without the dedication and support shown, and we are all incredibly grateful for the enthusiasm put into our cricket.

Netball

This week, our teams displayed remarkable resilience by persevering through challenging conditions. With temperatures already at 28 degrees by 9 am, I can only imagine how intense it must have been later in the day, especially for the junior girls. Their dedication and determination throughout the day are truly commendable.

Our junior sides showed incredible heart and skill over the weekend, rising to the challenge of playing in the harsh 30-degree heat by 10 am.

Our teams in Years 3, 4, and 5/6 delivered standout performances, demonstrating teamwork, determination, and a genuine love for the game.

The 7/8 Maverick girls played a thrilling match, refusing to back down despite trailing early. With grit and determination, they rallied to wrestle a well-deserved draw in a tightly contested battle.

Our Year 9-12 girls teams fought hard, with College Vixens playing Monivae Orange and closing the point gap from round 1, a 5-goal difference, to a 2-point difference. I would also like to thank Elli Kirkpatrick for filling in and having an essential role in the mid-court.

Our College Thunderbirds defeated Monivae Yellow, winning by over 10 points. Standout players were Saskia Gould, Izzy Malseed, and Sophie Spence.

Congratulations to all players and coaches for their resilience and sportsmanship over this challenging day.
