Last week, we were fortunate to celebrate our graduating Year 12 class of 2024. We enjoyed our time with students, parents, and colleagues in the Tim Murray Room at our senior campus.

This was a wonderful meal prepared by our chef, Josh. The waiting staff are sometimes a little forgotten, and two in particular stepped up at the last minute to help.

Year 7 boarders Daisy Hall and Poppy Malseed volunteered their time to assist last Thursday night, which we all appreciate.

Well done Poppy and Daisy for your service to the College, your smile’s during the evening also told us that you were both having a great time.

Welcoming our boarders with an activity

This week we welcome our new boarders for 2025. They have started boarding as we also begin our StepUp program at the Senior School. Getting involved and keeping boarders busy is important during the induction process, as we focus upon forming social connections as soon as possible. An activity is a perfect way to keep boarders busy and focused upon a common theme.

MOD Glen McGregor, who happens to also be a Coordinator of Scouts in Hamilton, created an activity for the boarders to make their own wrist bands. Making paracords was a perfect way for boarders to work on something individually but also collectively building relationships.

Boarders in the workforce

We have many boarders who are working locally, applying the skills learnt in boarding such as independence and organisation into the world beyond school. This ‘real-world’ experience is a perfect way for boarders (and teenagers in general) to better understand the workforce's expectations. Further, they learn the art of how to communicate with adults, to receive instructions and tasks, and develop their sense of initiative, all the while doing something that has true rewards for them. Sometimes, these rewards are financial, with some extra pocket money, or it is more to do with their passions in life. For Lachie, it is the latter.

Each week Lachie works with MOD Brian Parfrey. Assisting in the automotive trade and learning the skills involved in mechanics. With a desire to one-day fly helicopters and work as a helicopter engineer, Lachie is well and truly developing the foundational skills for his dream to turn into reality. Well done Lachie, we’re proud of your achievements.
