Celebrating Our Nude Food Champions!
We’d like to give a big shout-out to our amazing students and families for switching to Nude Food lunchboxes! Every wrapper-free lunch helps reduce the amount of plastic ending up in landfill.
Last term, we checked in once a week on a surprise day to track how many students were bringing Nude Food lunchboxes. Over just seven weeks, we counted a total of 148 Nude Food lunchboxes! This was a fantastic team effort and shows how committed our students and families are to reducing waste and making more sustainable lunch choices.
Each year, Australians send 538,000 tonnes of soft plastics to landfill. We know it’s tricky to avoid soft plastics altogether, but buying in bulk and using reusable containers is already making a huge difference in our community.
Another great way to help is by recycling soft plastics! Did you know you can now recycle your soft plastics locally? Woolworths in Hastings is taking part in a soft plastic recycling trial—an easy and impactful way for families to care for the environment.
You can return clean, dry soft plastics that feature the Australasian Recycling Label (ARL) with the phrases “Check locally,” “Return to store,” or “Store drop off.” These collection bins are usually located at the front of the store.
What can go in the bin?
- Plastic shopping bags and bread bags
- Chip and confectionery wrappers
- Cereal box liners
- Any soft plastic with the correct ARL
Please remember: items must be clean, dry, and limited to household quantities.
By recycling soft plastics, you’re helping turn waste into useful items like park benches, shopping trolleys, and even road materials. Let’s keep working together to reduce landfill and protect our planet—one wrapper at a time!
