Grade 2/3

Welcome back to Term 3! We’re excited to begin another term filled with engaging learning, new challenges, and lots of opportunities to grow. Students have settled in well, and it’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they reconnect with friends and dive into their learning. We’re looking forward to a fantastic term together!

Literacy.

Students have had a busy two weeks already! We have been exploring more complex letter-sound combinations as part of our Sounds-Write program, building their confidence in reading and spelling. We have also been learning about procedural texts through the much-loved story Wombat Stew. Students have enjoyed identifying the structure and language features of procedures and have had fun creating their own imaginative recipes, applying what they’ve learned in a creative and engaging way.

Procedural Texts:

Numeracy:

Symmetry

In Mathematics, our students have been learning about symmetry. They explored examples of symmetry in nature—such as leaves, butterflies, and flowers—and discussed how shapes can be divided into equal parts. To show their understanding, students created their own symmetrical artworks, carefully designing patterns that reflect balance and harmony on both sides.

Graphing

At the end of last term, our focus was on data and graphing. Students gathered information by asking thoughtful questions, then recorded and organised the responses. They worked on collating the data and converting it into graphs, such as bar graphs and pictographs, to help them clearly represent and interpret the information they collected.

Representing Numbers in different ways.

Last week in Mathematics, we explored how three-digit numbers can be represented in different ways. Students engaged in hands-on activities using concrete materials such as MAB blocks, place value charts, and number expanders to build and break apart numbers. These practical tasks helped deepen their understanding of place value and how numbers can be flexibly represented.

Pyjama Day

At the end of last term, students were very excited to come to school in their pyjamas. We came to together as a whole school to participate in relaxing activities together.
