Division T-Ball Event
This week, selected students from Bittern Primary represented our school at the Division Mixed T-ball event. It was a fantastic opportunity to compete at a high level against strong competition. Our team demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork, and resilience throughout the day. We’re so proud of how they supported one another and played with determination.
There is a lot happening in PE and Sport this term.
Firstly we have our House Athletics at Westernport in Week 5. These aths are a huge day and involve the whole school. Ultimately the day provides us with a school House Athletics champion and invidual age champions plus allows selection for District Athletics.
It can't work without parental help so please let me know if you are able to assist. Everyone is welcome to come along and support. Let's hope for some great weather.
District Athletics occurs two weeks later (4th September) at Mornington Athletics track and if your child has made the team, you will be notified after our House Aths selections.
In Week 8 our swimming program commences and runs everyday for that week. Available spots are now closed. There is some conjecture as to whether the renovations at Pelican Park will be completed in time and we are in communication with management. We will update you if any changes occur.

Auslan (Australian Sign Language)
It has been wonderful to welcome our students back to school this term with such positive attitudes and enthusiasm for learning! In Auslan, students have settled back in smoothly and are already making great progress as they continue to build their communication skills.
We’ve kicked off the term with a strong focus on revision and interpretation, helping students refresh key signs and boost their confidence. This has been achieved through a variety of interactive signing games designed to make learning fun and engaging. Students have particularly enjoyed playing Auslan Bingo, Buzz, and Guess Who—all of which encourage quick recall, expressive signing, and observation skills.
In addition to our games, students have been practising the Australian National Anthem and the School Oath in Auslan, ensuring students understand not just the signs, but also the meaning and purpose behind these important traditions.
It’s been a joy to see students encouraging one another, trying their best, and bringing lots of energy to each session. I’m incredibly proud of how they’ve returned to Auslan with such motivation and enthusiasm.
As I will be on leave for the remainder of Term Three, Auslan lessons will pause during this time and resume in Term Four. I look forward to getting back into teaching Auslan when I return.

Visual Arts
In Visual Arts this term, students have been exploring the work of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, connecting strongly with NAIDOC Week themes and learning about storytelling through art.
Foundation and Year 1 students looked at artist Merindah Gunya, discussing how she uses symbols and colours to share stories about connection to Country. They then created their own meaningful symbols and layered them in colourful pattern-based paintings. Year 2/3 students were inspired by Bronwyn Bancroft’s use of colour and pattern in landscapes, learning how to show foreground, middle ground, and background using acrylics and paint pens.
In the senior years, students explored Australian birds through the styles of Melanie Hava and Grotti Lotti, blending backgrounds, sketching native birds, and adding bold shapes and detailed outlines using stencils and paint pens.
Across all levels, students have been reflecting on the important role of First Nations artists and the power of art to tell personal and cultural stories.

August Art Attack
Bittern Primary School is pleased to be participating again this year in the upcoming August Art Attack, an art show hosted by the Crib Point Community House to showcase talented local artist. Selected student artworks from across the year levels will be proudly displayed, showcasing creativity, imagination, and the visual art skills we’ve been developing in class. It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our young artists and share their talents with the wider community. Please see the flyer below for more information about the upcoming event.
Independent children’s entries: If there are children whose artwork has not been selected for entry through the school, they are welcome to enter independently in the Under 18s category. There is a charge of $5 per artwork for these entries. A maximum of two pieces per artist will be accepted in this category. Parents can arrange an under 18 entry form for their child by contacting the Organising Committee for an Under 18 Entry Form.
