The Gap State High School invites local families to become part of a vibrant global community by hosting an international student as part of our HeartHouse Homestay Program.
Our International Student Program brings students from across the world to study, grow, and experience life in Queensland. Behind every successful international student is a caring homestay family who helps them feel safe, supported, and at home.

Homestay families play a vital role by providing:

Our school currently supports 31 international students living with local families. Many of these relationships grow into lifelong friendships across the globe.
SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES
You Are Never Alone
Our dedicated International Program staff work closely with both students and families to ensure a positive experience for everyone.
We provide:
- Induction and preparation sessions before students arrive
- Ongoing support and guidance
- Regular communication with our team
- Community gathering for students and host families
- Remuneration to cover daily living expenses
Whether you are new to hosting or have years of experience, we are here to support you every step of the way.
YOUR ROLE AS A HOST
What It Means to Be a Homestay Family
As a homestay host, you help shape a student’s experience in Australia.
You will provide:
- A welcoming, inclusive home environment
- A private bedroom with study space and storage
- Three nutritious meals daily plus snacks
- Support with travel to and from school (for Study Tours only)
- Encouragement as students adjust to a new culture
- 24/7 supervision (for Sudy Tours only)
Requirements:
- A home within a reasonable commute to the school
- All adults in the household must hold a current Blue Card
No prior hosting experience is necessary — just a genuine interest in supporting young people.
