Year 7 Visual Arts

A creative start to Term 2 for our Year 7 Visual Art Studio Excellence class engaging with Queensland Museum loans collection of native species – raptors, bat, bilby, water dragon, quoll - in careful observation drawing in preparation for their photography unit with Dr Renata Buziak as our artist-in-residence this term. 

Renata is also offering a Saturday workshop 16 May 2026 @ TGSHS for students (15+) and adults. If you are interested in participating in the workshop on Saturday 16 May, please see the details below to register.

Our Visual Art Studio Class on Friday afterschool commences this week. Any interested students can apply and this Term we are offering ‘Painting – a pathway to wellbeing’ with Natarscha Schneider. Please see the details below for student enrolment.

Year 11 & 12 Visual Arts

Year 11 and 12 Visual Art students had the opportunity to attend a presentation by QAGOMA exhibition designer Melissa Gore. 

Students were given insight into the thoughts and efforts of how art exhibitions are put together, from small exhibitions to block buster showcases like Presence, Air, and Marvel. 

Melissa Gore explained the roles and dynamics between people and teams to ensure exhibitions engage the public in their experience of the gallery and artworks while also maintaining the safey of the public and the gallery spaces. 

She spoke of how the exhibition and curatorial teams work with artists in capturing their vision and the various technical and symbolic adjustments needed to fulfill this. 

Students have come away from the presentation with knew knowledge for their own art practices, especially as they consider how they will install their own artworks in their upcoming assessment.
