Autumn Fair 2025

Welcome to The Alice Springs Steiner School Autumn Fair!

The Autumn Fair has been a cherished tradition in our community for many years. Entirely run by our school families, this special event is an important fundraiser that supports new projects and resources for our school.

Save the Date: Saturday, 24th May 10am - 2pm

Each class is responsible for running a different stall and nominates an Autumn Fair Class Coordinator (or Coordinating Group) to oversee the stall on the day and recruit volunteers. Class 4 parents are responsible for the overall Fair coordination.

We now have almost all our Stall Coordinators—thank you to those who have signed up!

In the coming weeks, we will send out a link for signing up to volunteer on the stalls. Your Class Stall Coordinators will also be in touch soon with details on what needs to be done and how you can help.

How You Can Get Involved Now

  • Craft Sessions: Regular craft sessions are already happening—come along and get creative!
  • Preserve Making & Jar Collection: Start making preserves and collecting clean, label-free jars to donate. We have set up a collection point for jars and glass bottles in the alcove near the kitchen. These will be used for jams, preserves, chai, and lemonade.

Stay Connected

Help us spread the word by sharing our Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/3983033052015115

For questions or to volunteer, please contact your Class Coordinators or the Fair Volunteer Coordinators. Otherwise, reach out to any Class 4 parent, and we’ll point you in the right direction.

A Message from the Class 4 Fair Organising Committee

The Class 4 School Fair Organising Committee is in full swing, meeting fortnightly to coordinate actions and tasks that will ensure a fun and safe celebration for our school and the wider community.

A huge thank you to everyone who has taken on a role—it takes a village!

Jam Jars & Cordial Bottles

We need clean jars and bottles for preserves, jams, chai, and lemonade. Please bring in:

  • Clean, label-free jars
  • Cordial and passata-like bottles

Food Safety

With so many food stalls and baked goodies at the fair, we encourage as many people as possible to complete this free, 30-minute online food handling course: https://dofoodsafely.health.vic.gov.au/index.php/en/

Making Preserves

The school holidays are a great time to make preserves!

Here’s a helpful guide to sterilising jars and some recipes: https://youtu.be/UbQfLEca-5o?si=qFwnhFwXEemY7qrI

Popular preserves at the fair include:

  • Shirl’s Eggplant Chutney
  • Tomato Relish
  • Mustard Pickles
  • Various jams
  • Any of your family favourites!

A Special Recipe for the Holidays

Preserving Children (Adapted from the Broken Hill School of the Air cookbook)

Ingredients:

  • 1 grassy area, paddock, Telegraph Station, or similar
  • As many children as possible
  • Several dogs and puppies (optional: more children depending on space)
  • A dry river or creek bed
  • Rocks or river red gums

Directions: Into a grassy area or paddock, pour children and dogs, allowing them to mix well in the dirt. Cover with a dry creek bed, rocks, and river red gums until slightly dusty. Allow children and dogs to become almost completely covered. Once children have browned to your liking, cool and rinse in a bath. When dry, dress and serve with milk and fresh-baked biscuits.

Have a great week, and thanks for your support!
