Class 8 & 9 News
DAN GERICH
Over the past three weeks, our main lesson has been all about Probability. Students have been exploring different types of experiments, particularly distinguishing between those with and without replacement—a concept that challenges logical thinking and deepens their understanding of chance and outcomes. Through hands-on activities, discussions, and problem-solving, they’ve developed confidence in recognizing patterns and making predictions based on probability models.
Alongside our mathematical journey, we have also begun reading our first novel of the year: George Orwell’s Animal Farm. This classic allegory provides a thought-provoking extension of our previous studies on the Russian Revolution and Communism, allowing students to draw connections between history and literature. As we progress through the book, we will be analysing Orwell’s use of allegory and discussing how his critique of power and corruption still holds relevance in the world today.
Looking ahead, our next main lesson block will be with Robert Southerland, who will guide students through an exploration of Human Biology. This unit will delve into the intricacies of the human body, helping students understand its systems, functions, and the science behind health and well-being. It promises to be a fascinating and insightful journey into the mechanics of life itself.
With a blend of mathematical reasoning, literary analysis, and scientific discovery, the Year 8-9 class is off to a strong finish of this first Term 2025.
