This week's Student Voice
In inquiry we’ve done some experiments, they have involved oozy Oobleck and Spectacular Spider drinks! The oozy Oobleck experiment was interesting to see the chemical and physical changes that were made. The Oobleck was liquid when you left it to drip in your hand, and rock hard when you squeezed. Now for the spectacular spider drinks, it was fizzing, bubbly fun! Although it was delicious, you could really see the changes in the drink. It was the most amazing experiment. We still have the lighting candles and sea water experiments to come!

What's Coming up in the Classroom in the Next Fortnight:
Reading: In Weeks 9 and 10, we are coming to the end of our Term 1 novel, 'Rowan of Rin'. We will continue answering key comprehension questions using a variety of literal, inferential and evaluative methods.
Writing: In Weeks 9 and 10, Students are focusing on scientific procedural writing. They are ensuring that all their experiment reports have been written in full sentences and have followed text organisation requirements. They will be choosing one experiment to publish digitally. Students will also be finalising their chosen Term 1 publication in free/independent writing.
Numeracy: In Weeks 9 and 10, students are completing a Time project about a trip to Canberra. They need to create a timetable of their chosen destinations and calculate elapsed time to ensure they have enough time to sightsee all they are planning.
Inquiry: In Weeks 9 and 10, students are completing their finalised Science Experiment Reports and publishing one of these digitally.
Willy Kids/Respectful Relationships: Willy Kids are reflective learners so we will be celebrating our achievements of our term and year so far. We will look out work that we are proud of to share at Open Afternoon in Week 9. In Respectful Relationships, we are continuing to explore emotions and the intensity that emotions come in. We are building our emotional literacy and vocabulary to recognise and respond to varying emotions.
Term 1 Summer Interschool Sport:
Week 8- Away v Sacred Heart
Week 9- All District Finals @ Newport Gardens PS (teams will be notified of confirmed finals matches on Monday of Week 9)
Term 2 Sport Trials:
On Wednesday 1st April, we will be undertaking trials for our Term 2 Winter Interschool Sport Trials to fill our teams. Term 2 Interschool Sports for our district include: AFL 9s, Netball, Softball, Hockey and Soccer.
As in Term 1, our Grade 6 students will have preference for their first chosen sport. Should there more be interest in a sport than spots available in a team, we will trial the students on this day. Should a Grade 6 not receive their first preference, they will be able to move onto their next chosen sport (and so forth).
Grade 5 students will have the opportunity to try out for the remainder of team positions in the given sports. Students who are not placed in a team or do not wish to participate in Winter Interschool School Sport will join the alternative sport program. This program is currently being finalised with possible excursion/incursion providers. We aim to communicate these with families before the end of term.
If your 5/6 student will be away on Wednesday 1st April, please have them speak with their teacher ASAP to give their preferences. If they happen to be absent on the day, a parent will need to email or call the school on this morning to provide their preferences as teams need to be finalised on this day.
Should you have any further questions about Interschool Sport for Term 2, please contact Christina or Molly via Compass.
