Prep Team News

with Caitlin, Georgia & Claire

Hello Prep families,

It's no surprise we have had another busy couple of weeks in Prep! According to the Preps, some of their highlights so far this Term have been:

  • Meeting their buddies
  • The Wellbeing Incursion
  • Prep Assemblies
  • Singing Peter the Penguin’s song

We are excited to continue our learning until the end of term!

Easter Hat Parade

On Thursday the 2nd of April, Willy Primary will have their annual Easter Hat Parade. Students are invited to wear Easter themed headwear. Parents are welcome to come and watch the parade which will commence from 9:15am on the basketball court. Here are some possible hat ideas to inspire you!

Toilet Etiquette

We have been having lots of discussions with the Preps about appropriate behaviour in the toilets. Students have been reminded that the toilets are not for playing and are an area where it is important to respect each others’ privacy. If you could please support us by having a discussion with your child at home about how they should behave in the toilets, it would be much appreciated.  Emphasising that the students should not be locking the doors and crawling underneath, or going into a cubicle with another student.

Curriculum Focus: Weeks 8 - 9

Reading - Students will learn about appropriate reading behaviours, for example direction of print and caring for books. They will also discuss book features such as the front cover, pictures and text. As part of our Little Learner’s program, students begin the year learning single letter sounds, with our current focus being the /c/ and /i/ sounds. To help us remember these sounds, we have met Cooper the caterpillar and Izzy the insect. There are songs about these characters available online, which you may like to listen to with your child at home or in the car:

Cooper Caterpillar Song - Spotify

Izzy Insect Song- Spotify

Writing- Students are learning to write their name, correctly form letters, trace over a modelled piece of writing and copy it underneath. This week we are focusing on forming the letter ‘c’.

Numeracy- Students are learning to graph information about themselves, their classmates and their school. They are also finding different ways to represent a number by starting our count to 100 Days of School.

Inquiry - Students are investigating how Willy Kids can be successful and engaged learners. They are also learning about the importance of being considerate by thinking about other people as well as themselves.

Willy Kids - Our Willy Kid topic for this fortnight is ‘Willy Kids have a Growth Mindset’. The Willy Kid topic for the next fortnight is ‘Willy Kids are Reflective Learners’.

Respectful Relationships- This term our Respectful Relationships topic is Emotional Literacy.  The aim of this topic is to assist students to recognise and identify their own emotions, and describe situations that may evoke these emotions.

Homework - Each Monday, students will be given an activity to complete at home that relates to our weekly sound focus. The activity in their ‘Home Learning Book’ will be collected each Friday. Homework in Prep should take no longer than 15 minutes.
