Year One Team News

As the term draws to a close it has been lovely having the opportunity to reflect on all the learning we have done since the beginning of the year. We have been handing out certificates for nightly reading and we encourage you to continue to write in their logbook so we can keep on giving out more certificates for nightly reading!
We have had a wonderful week celebrating our ‘unique stripes’ as a part of Neurodiversity Week. We enjoyed listening to the text All My Stripes and sharing the different strengths ‘or stripes’ we all have that make us who we are.
A couple of reminders:
Curriculum Focus: Weeks 9-10
Reading: We are continuing the Little Learners Love Literacy program with the prefix /un-/ and revision of long vowel sounds: /ai/, /ay/, /ee/, /ea/, /_ _y/, /igh/, /ie/, /_ y/, and /oa/.
Writing: We are going to publish a good copy of a Pig the Pug retell.
Numeracy: We will be looking at addition and subtraction of numbers within 20.
Inquiry:. We are coming to the end of our inquiry unit and what it means to keep our community, body and mind safe. Students have enjoyed the unit and will now have a number of different tools to help them keep healthy minds and bodies.
Willy Kids/Respectful Relationships: We are going to reflect on the term we have had. Willy Kids are reflective learners when we learn from our mistakes.
Warm regards,
The Grade One Team – Steph Keswick (1K) & Emma Chang-Kum (1C)
