Neurodiversity Celebration Week

This week, our school joined schools and communities around Australia in celebrating Neurodiversity Celebration Week; a wonderful opportunity to recognise and honour the many different ways our brains work. At Willy Primary, we believe that every child brings unique strengths, perspectives, and ways of thinking to our school community, and this week gave us a chance to celebrate exactly that.

Across every year level, students have been exploring the theme of neurodiversity through specially chosen picture story books. Each book was selected to spark conversation, build empathy, and help children see that difference is something to be celebrated rather than something to be hidden. The stories opened up some beautiful discussions in classrooms about what it means to belong, to be understood, and to appreciate the people around us.

Following the stories, each cohort completed a creative activity connected to their book; from artwork to written reflections, the students threw themselves in wholeheartedly, and their work reflects just how deeply they engaged with the ideas. We've shared the titles of the books that inspired them below.

At our school, we are committed to building a community where every Willy Kid feels seen, valued, and celebrated for who they are. We are so proud of the thoughtful, kind-hearted learners we see in our classrooms every day.
