Year 10 EIF Showcase: Celebrating Learning and Growth

On Wednesday, 28 October, our Year 10 students proudly shared their learning journeys at the Exploring Identities and Futures (EIF) Showcase, presenting their work for Assessment Type 2: Taking Action and Showcasing My Capabilities, which contributes 50% of their overall EIF grade.

As part of their EIF studies, students were challenged to explore a personal interest, develop a new skill or capability, and take ownership of their learning. From photography, stop-motion animation and sign language to stroke rehabilitation, knitting, DJing, baking and fashion design, the showcase highlighted an impressive diversity of interests and achievements.

Beyond the final products, the showcase celebrated the learning journeys behind them, including the challenges students navigated, the perspectives and feedback they sought, and the skills and capabilities they developed along the way.

Congratulations to all students on their efforts, achievements and willingness to step outside their comfort zones. Thank you to the families, staff and fellow students who attended, engaged with the displays and provided valuable feedback to support the students' ongoing reflection and growth.

Year 12 Visual Arts Exhibition

Come and celebrate the remarkable work of our Stage 2 Visual Arts students, Maia, Aimee, Hannah, Zara, Ophelia, Amelie, Allyson, Rose and Angela.

This exhibition presents a group of talented young artists whose work reflects impressive technical skill, thoughtful observation and individual artistic vision. Alongside their finished artworks, visitors can explore the students’ process work, from early ideas and experiments to research, refinement and the decisions that shaped each final piece.

The exhibition opens on Friday 6 November at 5:30pm at the Mary Gonzaga Barry Art Centre, with Jacky Hamilton, Leader of Visual Arts, officially opening the show. It will remain open to the Loreto community for one week during school hours. We warmly invite you to come in, look closely and celebrate the creativity and dedication behind this outstanding body of work.

Once Upon a Festival

On Friday 30 October, our Year 8 students attended the Once Upon A Festival school literary celebration held at Immanuel College. This annual two-day event is an opportunity for schools across Adelaide to meet a range of Australian authors and participate in writing workshops led by them.

Our students were fortunate to hear presentations from Lili Wilkinson, R.A. Spratt, Charlie Archbold, Carla Salmon and Jeremy Lachlan. The main focus of the presentations was the craft of writing, with practical advice on how to construct engaging stories, persevere when faced with writer’s block, get started on a timed creative writing piece, as well as tips and tricks from the publishing world.

Each class attended two talks and one workshop and made the following observations:

R.A. Spratt was so entertaining and not boring at all!

The authors told stories but made them relatable.

It was good that we got to hear from a range of authors of different genres.

I found it interesting to hear the authors' stories about their different paths to writing and their careers. I came away with lots of ideas – so many ideas for my writing.

Lili Wilkinson was funny, nice and creative. She explained different phases of the writing process and also how she uses lots of real things to influence her writing.
