In Literacy, over the past two weeks we have been busy learning about more letters of the alphabet and their most common sounds. Students have then used this new knowledge to read and write words. We have also been learning our Stage One heart words which have been stuck into the Grade One diaries and are at the back of the Prep diaries to practise at home. A reminder to sign your child's diary each night they read to you for our Reading Nights Competition and read these heart words with your children every night. We have also been learning about comprehension strategies such as making predictions using the title and pictures, making text to self and text to text connections using the texts, Our Class Is A Family and Alexander's Outing. This week we have been learning about rhyming words using Nursery Rhymes. Students have learnt that if they can say for example, cat, hat, mat, they can read, sat and spell bat.
In Numeracy we have continued learning more about numbers to 20 and beyond and how to make these numbers using place value houses. We have learnt how to make these numbers with the 1 in teen numbers equal to 10 and 3 more for example in 13.
In Geography we have been learning to describe our own safe place and explain why places are important to us. We have learnt how people belong to places and how they make us feel; safe and happy. We have been learning to understand the importance of caring for natural and built environments.
In Health we have been learning about emotions; how to notice them, how they make us feel, what they may sound like and what may cause these emotions.
In Design Technologies we have been learning about what items are made from and how to sort and group these items based on observable properties. We have found items that are made with more than one material and described these items using words such as smooth, rough, dull, bright, brittle and soft.
In Auslan we have been learning how to get peoples' attention politely by waving, tapping or getting someone's eye contact. We have integrated showing how we feel using sign language linking this to our Health lessons showing emotions and matching our face to express signed feelings.
We absolutely loved our Buddy session with our Grade 5/6 students playing all sorts of board games. There was a lot of team work, good sportsmanship losing games and getting to know each other even more.

Students loved learning how to travel safely by bus, especially looking at the enormous engine and learning how to exit the bus in emergencies, via outside steps.

A reminder to please have a change of clothes in your child's bag for 'little accidents' and a plastic bag to send wet clothes home.

Bus Safety 🚌🚌

We were lucky to have Simcocks come out and talk to us all about Bus Safety. Students learnt that they should stand 120 steps away from the bus stop when the bus pulls up. If a student walks out in front of a bus, the driver cannot see you if you are below the bullbar in height. Also, if you walk out the front of the bus, on the driver's side, cars coming up that side also can't see you.

We also learnt that these little grooves in the side of the bus under the Emergency Exit window are used as steps, if we need to climb out of the window. If we need to break the Emergency Window, it breaks into little plastic beads, so it is safe to climb out of the window.
Students have been learning about nouns, verbs, and adjectives.
Nouns are people, places, things or animals. 🕵️♀️💒🛵🐌.
Verbs are a doing or action word, like running, eating or jumping. 🏃♂️🏃♂️
Adjectives are describing words about Nouns. The yellow bee. 💛🐝
In maths, we have just finished learning all about place value. We have learned how to partition numbers, number lines, and represent two and three-digit numbers. Manipulatives like MAB blocks, whiteboards and place value charts have all been a big help with our learning. 1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣4️⃣➕➖✖️🟰
