Our Young Voices in Action
On 8 May, three Year 6 students from Salvado Catholic College proudly represented the school in this year’s Public Speaking Competition, debating the topic of the “Social Media Ban.”
Ivy Scott (6R), Kaylee Weaire (6G) and Gerard Yhui Choquenaira (6R) each delivered thoughtful, engaging, and well-prepared speeches, presenting arguments both for and against the proposed ban. They competed against students from Serpentine Primary School, Marri Grove Primary School, Roleystone Community College, Southern Hills Christian College, and Woodland Grove Primary School.
Despite the nerves that naturally come with public speaking, all three students performed exceptionally well. Participants were judged against a detailed rubric that included voice projection, eye contact, body language, confidence, use of language, conclusions, and effective use of resources.
Ivy, Kaylee, and Gerard should be incredibly proud of their efforts. They represented Salvado Catholic College with confidence, maturity, and enthusiasm, and were outstanding ambassadors for our school.
A special congratulations goes to Kaylee, who was awarded First Place in the competition. This is an outstanding achievement, and she will now progress to Parliament House to represent Salvado Catholic College in the next stage of the competition.
An amazing effort and congratulations to all!
