A Message from the Principal

For just as each of us has one body with many parts… so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.”
~ Romans 12:4–5

Dear Families and Friends

Our recent Year 3 Assembly on Civics and Citizenship offered a simple yet powerful reminder that being part of a community brings with it both rights and responsibilities. Through their learning, our students reflected on what it means to belong — not only to a country, but to a community — and the part each of us plays in shaping it.

At the heart of the assembly was a message that resonates deeply in a school such as ours: communities are strengthened when every individual feels a genuine sense of belonging and understands the importance of contributing to the common good. I commend our Year 3 students and their teachers for the care, thought and purpose behind such a meaningful assembly.

At Salvado Catholic College, this sense of belonging is something we continue to build together — through connection, participation and shared experiences grounded in faith, respect and service.

Celebrating Our Story

Salvado Day, held at the end of last term, was a particularly special moment in the life of our College. As we celebrated the legacy of Dom Rosendo Salvado, we also marked an important milestone — 10 years of Salvado Catholic College. It was a pleasure to welcome back our foundation Principal, Mr Santino Giancono, along with Advisory Council Chair Mr Clement Mulcahy, who joined us for the liturgy.

A highlight of the day was the student-led panel, where our College Leaders posed thoughtful and insightful questions about the College’s journey and its future. It was a powerful reminder that while we honour those who laid the foundations, it is our young people who will carry the story forward. The day continued with student-run stalls raising funds for a local charity and concluded with a vibrant tableaux of activities. There was a genuine sense of pride, joy and connection throughout the day. I extend my sincere thanks to our staff for the significant work behind the scenes to bring the day together — it was a wonderful expression of community in action.

ANZAC Commemoration

On Wednesday 29 April, our College community gathered outdoors for our ANZAC Ceremony, led with great dignity and reverence by our students. Together, we paused to commemorate the values of courage, service and mateship, and to honour the sacrifice demonstrated by our defence forces — not only at Gallipoli, but throughout the ages. It was a meaningful opportunity for remembrance and reflection, reminding us of the responsibility we share to uphold these values in our daily lives. I thank our students and staff for their care and respect in preparing such a moving and fitting commemoration.

Partnership in Learning

Our recent Parent‑Teacher Interviews provided another important opportunity to strengthen the partnership between home and school. These conversations are an essential part of your child’s education. When parents and teachers work together, students notice — they feel supported, they know their learning matters, and they are more likely to engage positively themselves.

We understand that life is busy and that balancing commitments can be challenging. However, meaningful parent engagement does make a difference. Whether through attending interviews, maintaining open communication with teachers, or taking time to engage with your child’s learning, these actions strengthen not only individual outcomes, but our College community as a whole. If you were unable to attend the recent interviews, I strongly encourage you to make contact with your child’s teachers so that this important connection is maintained.

Building Community Together

More recently, our Friends of Salvado Mother’s Day Stall brought great excitement across the College, with students thoughtfully choosing gifts for the significant women in their lives. I sincerely thank the Friends of Salvado for their time, care and organisation. Their contribution is a wonderful example of active community engagement and service.

This was complemented beautifully by our Mother’s Day Breakfast, which provided a warm and welcoming space for families to gather and connect with one another. It was a joyful morning that celebrated the vital role mothers and mother figures play in the lives of our students and within our wider school community.

Moments such as these remind us that a strong community is never built by chance — it is built by people. By coming together, by participating and by supporting one another, we continue to strengthen the relationships and shared sense of belonging that make Salvado Catholic College such a special place.

As we look ahead to Sunday, I warmly wish all mothers and mother figures in our community a very happy Mother’s Day. Thank you for the constant love, guidance and care you provide each day. Your strength and generosity shape not only your own families, but also the spirit of our College.

God bless!
