Year 11 ATAR Biology Excursion
During Week 1 of Term 2, on 23 April, five ATAR Biology students attended a Biology Day excursion at Perth Zoo, where they had the opportunity to observe a wide range of animal species and connect classroom learning with real-world biological concepts.
Throughout the day, students learned from guides and zookeepers about animal physiology and adaptations that support survival and homeostasis. They also explored fieldwork strategies including camera traps, and capture-tag-recapture techniques used to monitor populations. The excursion provided valuable insight into biodiversity, the impacts of human activity, and conservation efforts through breeding programs, while also allowing students to investigate animal classification using taxonomic hierarchy, binomial nomenclature, and identification methods such as dichotomous keys.
A rich learning experience with a wonderful insight into potential future roles working in the Biological Sciences Field.
