Term 3 - Years 1 and 2

We have had a number of wonderful ideas for our writing this term. Some students are beginning to use paragraphs correctly while others are developing their interesting descriptive words. Overall everybody’s writing has improved which is pleasing to see.

In maths, the focus has been division. They were all very quick to let me know if the examples of dividing the objects into equal groups were not equal, especially if I was using cake or lollies, and I received more! So being fair helps with understanding the term equal.

In Geography, we have enjoyed learning about the weather, how to predict the weather and what to wear for the expected weather. Everyone marveled at the concept of how it could be so cold in Barraba while countries on the other side of the world are hot. We used these fabulous weather patterns to produce works of art such as storms by blowing paint around the paper.

In Religion, we have discussed the times when we have become angry with someone and how to cool down to allow the opportunity for understanding and forgiveness. They came up with some very practical ways in which they could cool down, such as: wash your face; go outside; run it out; have a cold drink; ride a bike; make a cake; and do some deep breathing.

We have been preparing our item for Grandparent’s Day next term. It is a wild production while we work out where everyone is moving to while trying to avoid any clashes. If you have a hobby horse, please let me know. If you are a girl, you will need to dress in shorts and a t-shirt of any colour of a horse, they do not have to match. If you are a boy, you will need to wear jeans and a farm work shirt. Boys may also wear a cowboy hat if they can keep it on their head during the performance. If you do not have any of these items, please let me know.
