Poorneet Year 7
Big Hello from Poorneet!
Greeting, families and friends,
We have had a massive second half to Term 3 at Poorneet, with plenty of activities, celebrations, sport and lots of great moments shared together.
Celebrating the Arts
We enjoyed a wonderful Celebration of the Arts, with our young people getting involved in painting, carving, designing, sewing, making jewellery and celebrating all things creative. It was a great night, enjoyed by everyone, and a wonderful opportunity for our young people to share their creativity and talents.
Footy, Finals and Fitness
Our young people have been busy with footy training and preparing for finals. Under 13 girls made it through to the semi-finals, while our Under 12 girls played in the Grand- final, narrowly losing by just two points.
Although the results didn’t go our way, the energy, excitement and support throughout the day were fantastic. Everyone gave it their best and enjoyed being part of the experience.
Run Club has also started, with Finniss and Frederick showing great commitment by attending every session. Great effort, fellas! and big Thanks to Rylie for getting this initive going.
Weekends, Outings and Adventures
Alongside our usual weekend outings, including mini golf, movies and Bounce, our mob have enjoyed night cruises, walks around Fitzroy Gardens and exploring different parks about the city and touch footy at St Kilda beach .
We also had a visit to Rick and Liz’s farm, where Trish and Leo were caught out in a very light hailstorm! Many of the young people had never seen hail before, making it a memorable experience.
Looking Out for One Another
One of the things we have really noticed this term is the way our mob are looking after and supporting each other.
When one student noticed another student was upset, she got her a glass of water and stayed with her until she was feeling better. When another student lost a sentimental bracelet, other students immediately joined in to help look for it. We have also welcomed new students who have been feeling homesick. A few of the fellas noticed and supported a new student by getting a staff member and sharing stories with him to help him feel more comfortable.
Pitching In
On weekends, some of our young people have also been helping staff cook dinner. Staff have really enjoyed their company and the opportunity to spend this time together.
The kids enjoyed yarning around the fire with Aunty Eva, alongside our local police, creating opportunities for connection, conversation and getting to know one another.
Respect in the Community
We have also seen some great examples of respect and consideration when travelling around Melbourne. Our students have been offering their seats to staff and older members of the community on trains and trams.
These small acts of care, kindness and looking out for one another are what help create a strong sense of belonging at Poorneet.
What a great way to finish Term 3. We are proud of the way our young people have continued to give things a go, support each other and build a strong sense of community at Poorneet.

Buarth Gurru
Hi families and friends,
We hope this newsletter finds you all well and in good spirits.
It has been a really solid end to Term 3 for our Year 8 fellas at Buarth Gurru. We have seen some great effort, growth and maturity from the boys throughout the term, and there have been plenty of moments that have made us proud.
We have also seen a solid effort with homework this term. The fellas have been returning from dinner and getting into their studies, showing that they are becoming more settled with their routines and responsibilities.
Keeping Active
There has been plenty of activity and fun after school and dinner this term by spending time at St Kevin’s playing basketball, playing footy at Citizens Park, and kicking the ball around at Josh’s paddock and not to forget footy training.
They also love taking a moment to stop and appreciate the sunsets whenever they come across one.
A big thank you to Hassan, who has done a great job supporting the fellas with kickboxing this term. The boys have really enjoyed getting involved and giving it a go.
Looking Out for Each Other
One of the highlights this term has been seeing the fellas show real care for one another. They have been checking in on each other, supporting each other and showing that sense of looking after their mates.
They also came together to support CC at his grand final, bringing plenty of energy and enthusiasm and showing what it means to get behind one of their own.
Stepping Up
Dwayne has really stepped up this term. We have seen extra effort with his chores, as well as him supporting and encouraging a Year 7 student, by helping with chores after dinner.
Denzel has been a great help in the kitchen, cooking dinner twice this term. His steak, eggs and chips were definitely enjoyed by everyone!
Celebrating Achievements
A big congratulations to T.T, who was awarded Most Valuable Player and finished third overall player for his RJFC team. A fantastic achievement. Jordan also winning an award for best art work on the night for our "Celebration of the Arts" it was a great night with many wonderful pieces of worked on display from all our students.
A Proud End to Term
All in all, our fellas have really settled into Buarth Gurru this term and have shown great maturity, care and responsibility.
It has been great to see them supporting one another, getting involved in activities and taking more ownership of their routines.
Well done, fellas — you have given us plenty to be proud of this term!
Wishing all our families a safe and happy break. We look forward to seeing everyone back for Term 4.
