Lesharnie Hall
Year 12 Class of 2025 - Kingswood College; home Bickerton Island, NT
Lesharnie is working at Groote Eylandt Mining Company (GEMCO) in Operation services, where her role is to help the mine operate safely and efficiently every day. Pictured below, showing the many different tasks involved, she is building chairs. Lesharnie works Monday to Thursday then returns home to Bickerton Island on Thursday afternoons.
GEMCO is located on Groote Eylandt, in the Gulf of Carpentaria in Australia’s Northern Territory, It is an open-cut, strip-mining operation that produces high grade manganese ore. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the Traditional Owners of the land, and GEMCO work with the Traditional Owners, to improve opportunities for local people.
Ciara
Year 12 Class of 2025- Kingswood College; home Bairnsdale, Victoria
Ciara finished working at Millingimbi, on Millingimbi Island as a teacher aide at the end of Term 2, and plans to work in Darwin and stay on in the NT, for the rest of this year. She is going for her full car licence shortly (pictured below with Lesharnie and Nickiesha) after getting her L’s in Melbourne last year.) What a great way to spend a gap year!
