100 days of Kindergarten

Celebrating 100 Days of Learning, Laughter and Growth!

Last Friday, our Kindergarten classroom transformed into a joyful hub of celebration as we marked a huge milestone: 100 Days of Kindergarten!

The children’s costumes were absolute perfection and seeing so many adorable 100-year-old grannies and grandpas with their tiny glasses and grey hair was truly the sweetest thing! (well done parents) It was a jam-packed day full of creativity and hands-on fun. The students drew self-portraits of what they’ll look like at 100, crafted custom pipe-cleaner glasses, and learned finger knitting thanks to the amazing Mrs. Rhodes.

The excitement continued as we tackled a 100-cup stacking challenge, went on a number 100 scavenger hunt, and played chess—with some of our expert students beautifully teaching their classmates the rules! After gathering to read 100 Days of School, we walked down to the courts for a game of basketball before decorating biscuits and enjoying delicious cupcakes arranged in the shape of a giant "100."

Each student took home a glow-stick wand to cap off an unforgettable celebration. Well done, Kindergarten! You are all amazing, and we are so proud of everything you have achieved so far.

Narrative Writing: Stepping into Storytelling

This term, our Kindergarten students are stepping into the magical world of narrative writing! Inspired by classic fairy tales, our young authors are busy creating their own imaginative stories and unique characters. The children are learning how stories are structured with a beginning, middle, and end. They are developing their literacy skills by describing settings, sharing their ideas out loud, drawing detailed storyboards, and using their growing phonics knowledge to write simple sentences with capital letters, finger spaces, and full stops. It has been wonderful watching their imaginations come to life on the page.

InitiaLit

Discovering Digraphs: Double the Letters, One Unique Sound!

In InitiaLit we have been learning al about digraphs! A digraph is when two letters come together to make one single sound. So far, the children have been busy spotting, sounding out, and writing ck, ss, ff, qu, and ee. They are having so much fun hunting for these special letter teams in our daily reading books and using them to build new words during reading groups and writing.

Dictation

Now that Kindergarten are becoming more confident with their letter sounds and our tricky words, it’s a great time to start encouraging dictation at home. Dictation is when someone says words out loud and your child writes them down exactly as they hear them. It helps improve their spelling, listening, handwriting, and attention to detail. Here are a few sentences which include the sounds and tricky words that we have learnt!

Maths

This term in Maths, our Kindergarten learners are stepping into the exciting world of addition as we explore how numbers work together! Aligned with the Early Stage 1 NSW Mathematics Syllabus, students are learning to combine groups of objects to find a total and represent these ideas using engaging "addition stories." By using hands-on counters, pictures, and real-life scenarios—such as "There were three birds in a tree and two more joined them"—children are building a deep understanding of combining quantities. They are developing their mathematical language by using words like 'add', 'plus', 'altogether', and 'makes', and are beginning to represent their thinking by creating visual storyboards and writing number sentences (such as 3 and 2 is 5). You can support this learning at home by spotting everyday addition moments together, like counting out snack pieces or combining toys during playtime.

Art

In Visual Arts, we have been exploring the wonderful world of lines! Students have been discovering how different types of lines—such as zig-zags, swirls, and straight strokes—can be used to create texture, shape, and expression in artwork. Combining drawing, oil pastels, and watercolour paints, the children brang their very own unique "line monsters" to life. This hands-on project was also a fantastic workout for their fine motor skills, as students carefully practiced their pencil grip, controlled pastel pressure, and developed precision through detailed cutting, pasting, and painting.
