August 13 - All Schools Netball Tournament
CONGRATULATIONS to our MCC netball teams who represented our school at the All Schools Netball Tournament last week! Our 9/10 Boys and 7/8 Girls (Gold) teams were undefeated throughout the day, despite facing some tough opposition from Calrossy, St Mary’s and Carinya. Our 9/10 Girls finished top of the ladder, while our 7/8 Girls (Blue) finished in the top two of their pool. We wish all four teams the very best of luck at the Regional Finals in September!
August 10 - Diocesan Athletics Carnival
Congratulations to all of our MCC Athletes who represented our school at the Diocesan Carnival last Thursday. We were the biggest team by a country mile! Several officials commented on the sportsmanship you showed on the day so thank you for that!
August 5 - North West Secondary Schools Oztag Championships:
On Thursday 30 July the NSW North West Oztag Secondary School Championships were held in Tamworth. The College was well represented by 4 teams which included the year 7 and 8 boys and girls as well as the year 9/10 boys and girls. Well done to the girls year 9/10 team who made it through to the grand final. The girls lost to Oxley but will advance to the State Finals on the 1st and 2nd of September at the Central Coast. The boys year 7/8 team made it to the semi-finals going down to a strong Tamworth High team 9-5. The year 7/8 girls team lost narrowly 3-2 in their semi-final whilst the year 9/10 boys played well only to miss the semi-finals by the barest margins. A big thank you to Miss Gambrill, Mr Fisher, Mrs Jameson, Grace Dietrich, Harrison Cooper, Kalen Loveday, Angela Trickett and Jordan Graf for coaching and assisting with the teams on the day. Well done to several students who helped out by refereeing games including Eliza Shanley and Indy Single.
August 5 - North West Secondary School Touch Football Championships:
The College was well represented with 4 teams participating in the NSW All Schools Touch Football Championships in Tamworth. The boys year 9/10, year 7/8 and Girls year 7/8 and year 9/10 all made the semi-finals. The year 7/8 boys team went through the day undefeated and made it through to the grand final where they defeated Tamworth HS 5-3. A great effort from the team who will now go to Sydney for the State Finals in September. A big thank you to Dylan Cooper, Ella Sheehan and Janae Griffiths who refereed on the day. Thank you to Miss Gambrill, Miss Halpin and Mr McCabe for all their efforts in coaching the teams. Good luck to the boys in Sydney.
Aug 4 - Football:
Top 16 and the best Northern NSW team in AUS!
The boys had a long trip to Lismore yesterday. Waking up to Miley Cyrus and a warmup that confused the onlookers and opposition Woodlawn team. Once again they underestimated us and once again, the boys were up to the challenge.
First half, it was a challenging scrap. Their midfield was strong and made Chaise have to pull out a big save early on. Back and forth but no clear cut chances means we went into the break 0-0. A few tactical changes and a big halftime chat from the Captain Cooper Jones, the boys were fired up and got ready for a big second half. Locking down their creative midfield meant the boys started creating chance upon chance and something had to give. Come the 59th out of 60 minutes and Louie Van Aanholt receives the ball wide, beats one close the byline and gets a low driven cross to a waiting Cooper Jones who belts the ball, scoring. 1-0 McCarthy.
Injury time starts and Woodlawn are trying all they can, flooding McCarthy's half but allowing Remy Monk too much space. He gets a through ball and attacks their box and three defenders go to him and forget about a sprinting Ben Van Aanholt. Remy squares the ball and Ben Van Aanholt finishes, securing a second goal and ultimately, the game.
Final score: 2-0 McCarthy!
The boys now go to Coffs Harbour in 2 weeks for more knockout games.
July 30 - Oztag:

July 22 - Football:
A big day for football in Coffs!
McCarthy teams for the 7-10 boys and 11-12 girls came to Coffs Harbour on a day trip to compete against the winners of the Lismore diocese schools.
The girls had a lot of younger players fill in against a strong side. They showed great character throughout the match but unfortunately couldn’t come away with the win. Thank you to the team and Miss Ratcliffe for your efforts and to go again next year.
The boys had a strong start to the game with a lot of the game in the opponents half. Flynn Dodson picked up a saved cross and got us off to the winning start. 3 more goals for the boys from Remy Monk x2 and Ben Van Aanholt and the boys finished out the game victorious!
Final score 4-1.They will now verse a team from the Newcastle/Hunter region in the coming weeks.
