Principal's Report
Embracing Change through Faith and Action:
As we settle into the rhythm of Term 3, our College community continues to reflect on how we can live out our mission to serve others with compassion and purpose. As we reflect on this mission, we are reminded of the extraordinary witness of St. Maximilian Kolbe, whose life exemplifies the radical power of love in the face of adversity. The recent release of the
Australian Catholic Bishops Conference Social Justice Statement Living the Gospel in Times of Social Division calls us to look closely at our local communities and offer meaningful, practical solidarity to those on the margins.
At McCarthy, we are guiding our young people to be open to change as we broaden and deepen our social justice programs. Our students are putting faith into action through our St Vincent de Paul initiatives, building real relationships on the ground with the Beacon Truck in Tamworth, and connecting with the residents at Nazareth House. Furthermore, our catechism program sees our students stepping up to mentor and teach in local primary schools. These opportunities allow our young people to see that true leadership begins with service, presence, and an open heart.
Our dedication to empathy and social justice is an extension of our broader pledge to foster student flourishing throughout the College. While the NSW Anti-Bullying Framework is slated for 2027, McCarthy is already preparing the soil by aligning our practices with these forthcoming mandatory benchmarks.
This state-wide initiative complements our Armidale Diocesan Living Well, Learning Well support philosophy. Grounded in the principle of universal and unconditional positive regard for every student, our local model transcends mere disciplinary measures, prioritising the development of robust protective bonds, attentive listening, and genuine relational support.
By weaving together these evidence-based state strategies with our Living Well, Learning Well objectives, we anchor our preventative efforts - such as minimising harm, responding with heart, and collaborating with parents - in our core Gospel values. Fostering a culture of transparent communication and shared respect ensures each McCarthy student feels truly known and empowered to pursue a future filled with hope.
Focus and Balance for Year 12:
For our Year 12 students, these final weeks of Term 3 are pivotal. As major assessments and the trial HSC are ending, we encourage everyone to maximise their time in the classroom and stay disciplined with study routines. Equally important, however, is maintaining a healthy, well-balanced schedule that leaves room for proper rest and down time. Consistent effort paired with self-care will ensure you finish your final weeks of secondary school strong and grounded.
Reflecting on Our NAIDOC Assembly:
Our NAIDOC Assembly was a profoundly moving and inspiring event for our entire school community. We were privileged to welcome keynote speaker Katie Taylor, who reminded us that we are one people, bound together by a shared history. Her message underscored the importance of listening, walking together, and building strong, respectful relationships as we move forward as a unified community. A huge thank you to our families for your attendance, our MCC Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Education team, Jolene Faint Armidale Catholic Schools and our wonderfully talented Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
MySchool Survey:
An annual satisfaction survey of parents, students and staff will be conducted on behalf of all Catholic schools in the Diocese this term. The surveys are designed to gather feedback from parents, staff and students about our school and will be used to inform school improvement. Responses are confidential, and individuals can not be identified.
The surveys will be launched via email on Monday, 24 August 2026 using the email addresses supplied to the school. If you do not receive an email with a link to the survey, you can access and complete the survey via the following link.

Summer Uniform:
All students can wear the summer uniform from Monday, 31 August. Please ensure all students wear the correct college summer uniform on Monday and Friday in Years 7-10.
