Go Green – School Initiative

As part of the Go Green Schools Initiative, a collaboration between Green by Nature and Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary (La Trobe University), FPS received a Grassland Plant Pack  for Kaan's Winya, our Indigenous garden. A big thank you to Holly a member of our Environmental Sustainability Working Group (ESWG) who applied for this funding and did the planting!  

Approximately 110 native grassland plants have been planted across three sections of the garden, with the remaining plants to be added once the area has been prepared. Small protective barriers have been installed to help prevent the young plants from being damaged by foot traffic.

The plants will be a great habitat for native insects, helping to improve biodiversity within the garden. A bug hotel will also be added very soon. 

How We Can Help Local Biodiversity at Home

We can all increase local biodiversity by planting native grasses and wildflowers in our home gardens or on nature strips (if permitted). Native grasses are low maintenance, drought tolerant and provide food and shelter for native bees, butterflies and other important insects. Even a small patch of native planting can help create wildlife corridors and contribute to local ecosystems.
