Curriculum Day Focus
Assistant Principal Update
As part of our school's Annual Implementation Plan, we are committed to providing ongoing professional learning opportunities that strengthen staff understanding of educational theory and evidence-informed best practice.
On 13 July, Fairfield Primary School staff participated in a Curriculum Day focused on key priorities for the semester ahead. The day commenced with Paul outlining the school's goals and strategic priorities, providing a clear direction for the work ahead.
Staff were led through engaging professional learning sessions that were facilitated by Nicole (AP) and Binh (Literacy Learning Specialist) that deepened staff understanding of the Instructional Hierarchy of Learning and its role in planning effective teaching and learning experiences. Staff explored how the hierarchy supports students' progression from acquiring new skills and knowledge to developing fluency, confidence and independence, enabling teachers to design targeted instruction that meets students at their point of need.
The day provided valuable opportunities for collaboration, reflection and professional dialogue, ensuring staff are well equipped to deliver high-quality teaching that supports improved learning outcomes for all students.

Building on this, Nicole and Binh facilitated further professional learning on the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework, exploring how it is implemented to promote student success and respond to the diverse needs of all learners. Staff examined how a tiered approach to instruction and intervention enables the school to provide timely, targeted support, ensuring every student has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

The day concluded with a professional learning session on employee mental health and wellbeing, led by guest speaker Lauren Turnbull. Lauren shared valuable insights into the importance of maintaining positive mental health in the workplace and provided practical strategies to support staff wellbeing, resilience and self-care. The session reinforced our commitment to fostering a positive and supportive workplace culture for all staff.
