Celebrating Learning
At Whittlesea Primary School, assemblies are an opportunity to celebrate student learning, achievements and positive contributions to our school community. They foster a sense of belonging and pride while reinforcing our school expectations of Do Your Best, Help Others Succeed and Respect Your School. We warmly encourage all families to attend, share in these celebrations and recognise the wonderful achievements of our students.

Learning Update - F-2
Foundation
In Social and Emotional Learning, Foundation students have been exploring the idea of imagining their future selves. They have been thinking about what they would like their futures to look like, including the careers they might pursue, the experiences they hope to enjoy and the choices they can make along the way. Students reflected on their interests and strengths to imagine what they might like to be when they grow up, sharing their ideas through drawings and discussions about their future aspirations.
Year 1
In Mathematics, Year 1 students have been learning about data. They collected and represented information using tally marks by surveying their classmates about their favourite fruits. Students compared their results, identified the most and least popular choices, and discovered that results can vary depending on the questions asked and the people surveyed.
They also collected data through observation, watching vehicles travel past the school soccer pitch and recording the types and colours of vehicles they saw. More recently, students have been exploring location and position, using ordinal numbers such as first, second and third, as well as directional language including forwards, backwards, left and right to describe positions and give directions.
Year 2
Year 2 students have returned from the holidays ready for a busy and engaging term of learning!
In Little Learners Love Literacy, students have been developing their understanding of prefixes, exploring how mis-, sub- and dis- change the meanings of words. They investigated examples such as behave and misbehave, zero and subzero, and appearing and disappearing, strengthening their understanding of word structure and vocabulary.
In Mathematics, students have been investigating fractions, learning to divide shapes and collections into equal parts, including halves, quarters and eighths. They have practised sharing fairly, identifying equal and unequal parts, and solving problems involving equal sharing.
During Inquiry, students have been exploring materials and their properties. They have investigated how different materials suit different purposes and what happens when ingredients are combined to create something new. These hands-on investigations have encouraged students to observe, question and discover how materials can be changed, combined and reused.
Year 2 students have also commenced their swimming program, developing their swimming skills, water safety knowledge and confidence in the water. They will continue their swimming lessons each Wednesday throughout the term.
As Term 4 continues, Year 2 students are looking forward to further learning opportunities as they prepare for their transition to Year 3 next year.
