Years 3 - 5

We have had a busy couple of weeks filled with lots of fun, learning and exciting experiences! Last week, we celebrated Book Week, with students coming to school dressed in some wonderful and imaginative costumes. We also had the opportunity to watch a dress rehearsal of Monivae’s school production, Once Upon a Mattress, which was a fantastic experience for our students. We celebrated Jolly Socks Day, with everyone showing off their colourful and whacky socks, and this week our students have also participated in both Junior and Senior Hoop Time, putting their teamwork, skills and sportsmanship into action.

In Humanities, we have been exploring natural and constructed landmarks across Australia. Students have begun their own independent research projects, selecting a natural Australian landmark to investigate and learning to gather and present information about its significance and features.

To complement our Humanities learning, our Art lessons have focused on creating mixed media artworks inspired by Australian landmarks. Students have experimented with watercolour techniques and soft pastel blending to create artworks featuring Uluru and the Sydney Opera House. These activities have provided students with an opportunity to explore different artistic techniques while developing their understanding and appreciation of significant Australian landmarks.

In celebration of Book Week last week, students created a tri-fold landscape inspired by the theme ‘A Symphony of Stories’. Students were challenged to think critically and demonstrate their creativity and imagination as they designed a layered landscape scene, carefully considering the background, mid-ground and foreground. They explored how scale, perspective and viewpoint can be used to create depth and bring a scene to life. The students produced some wonderful and imaginative landscape scenes, showcasing both their creativity and developing artistic skills.
