National Kitchen Garden Awards - WE ARE FINALISTS! 😊
Mrs Bell entered Cavendish PS into the 2026 National Kitchen Garden Awards through the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program and we are thrilled to announce that we are one of three national finalists in the Beyond the Gate Section. Twenty-seven finalists have been selected over nine categories, from close to 650 entries. The expert judging panel, consisted of Stephanie Alexander AO, Kylie Kwong AM, Connie Cao and Darren Robertson. The winners will be announced on 15th September. Each winner will receive a prize pack valued at almost $5,000, including a $1,000 cash grant, a two-year membership to the Kitchen Garden Program, and a kitchen garden bundle featuring a wicking bed, garden tools, cooking ingredients and more. We are very thankful to Mrs Bell for entering and even if we don't win, it will be have been an honour just to be judged as a finalist.
Parent Opinion Survey
At publishing of this newsletter, we have had 47% of our families log a response.
This survey, along with the Attitudes to School Survey (students) and the Staff Opinion Survey, help us to gather feedback and make improvements to our school.
If you haven't logged a response, I encourage you to do so. Your opinion is highly valued.
The survey closes on the 18th of September.
Monivae College "Once Upon a Mattress" Performance
After kindly supporting us last year with the use of their PAC, Monivae College invited us to watch their performance "Once Upon a Mattress". Not only did they invite our whole school, Monivae also provided free transport to and from the venue. Our students thoroughly enjoyed themselves, experiencing what it was like to watch a show from the audience perspective in the same theatre where they performed their sell out show "Shrek". Thank you Monivae for providing us with this opportunity.
Variety - The Children's Charity of Victoria Grant - new bikes
Last week we took delivery of 10 bikes, supplied by Daktari Sport Hamilton, paid for with funds donated by Variety - The Children's Charity Victoria.
To support this, we have also purchased a range of bikes and helmets for all of our students to access. Many thanks to Brook Walmsley and Rob Wood (Pa) for assembling all of our bikes. We are very grateful.
We are hoping to start riding soon - we need to set up some road rules and safety protocols, and then WE RIDE!
Book Week
As usual in Cavendish PS style, our Book Week celebration and parade was well supported and a lot of fun. We love seeing all the children joining in to celebrate the joy that reading brings, and especially enjoy celebrating with our Kindergarten children. Thank you everyone for coming. Make sure you have a look at the photos later in the newsletter.
Last I heard, the green sheep was being drenched and treated for rye grass staggers....She went a little bit shaky and wobbly riding the new bikes!
Jolly Socks Day
Standing Tall Hamilton - School Based mentoring has been supporting students at Cavendish Primary School for a number of years. It brought us joy to be able to support them by fundraising and participating in Jolly Socks Day. See if you can spot the imposter "Sock Puppet" in the pictures below.
We raised over $80 thanks to the generosity of our staff and students.
Footy Colours Day
Wednesday 9th September, Junior School Council will be running Footy Colours Day. Our Parents Club will be providing a free hot dog lunch for those students who would like one.
