Victorian All Schools Cross Country Championships

Last weekend, 9 runners took to Bundoora Park to represent VSC at the Victorian All Schools Cross Country Championships. Congratulations to all for their participation! A few personal bests were obtained, and a few cobwebs dusted off after some time off from competitive running for a couple of students. Well done to all! State Cross Country awaits those involved on the 24th of July!

EMR FINALS

Year 8 Boys Australian Football

On Tuesday June 17th, our year 8 boys football team went along to Elgar Park in Mont Albert to compete at the EMR finals. We encountered some tough opposition to start our day, with a big-bodied and well-drilled Rowville side being too much for us to handle, defeating us 18.14 122 to 0.0 0. If not for Kiah G and Christian E’s intercepting and drive out of the backline, the scoreline could have looked far worse.

Our day didn’t get much easier against Lilydale in our second match, who defeated us 15.14 104 to 1.0 6. Although the scoreline didn’t look a lot better, we were able to retain a lot more possession in this game and even hit the scoreboard thanks to a great goal on the run from Levon E. Henry D also contributed well with some strong contested marking around the ground.

Our final match of the day was against Ashwood, and it went down to the wire. Strong performances from Taha C, Jackson M and Patty B in the middle, as well as Joel B up forward kept us in the game, which we unfortunately lost by a single point – 4.4 28 to 4.3 27. Despite the three losses, the boys’ attitude throughout the day was fantastic, and we still had a great time, particularly our boys who hadn't played any footy before last week.

My personal highlight of the day: when Sonny V came face to face with an opponent THREE times his size and still decided to tackle him anyway!

Special thanks to Darren Davies for coming along as our assistant coach! Well done boys.

WAVERLEY DIVISION

Year 8 Round Robin Soccer: Boys/Mixed

Conditions were great on Friday the 20th for the boys and the girls' soccer teams to head out for the day. After many weeks of training, we were primed and ready to go. Our former state champion girls' team was in fine form, dominating the playing field - winning every single match by a large margin! A fantastic achievement. Our resilient boys team managed to fight our first match into a hard-won draw, and our second match into a close margin but an unfortunate loss followed by a final loss. Nonetheless, both teams gave it their all - fantastic achievement for all involved. Special shout-outs: Alice W, for a great leadership and a remarkable captaincy, and Kiah G, for fantastic all-rounder capabilities - acting as both goalkeeper and striker at different points. Well done, all!

Year 8 Round Robin Soccer: Girls

The year 8 girls soccer team began their state title defence with a solid day out at the Waverley Division Round Robin winning the day in style. The team will now direct their time and energy toward the EMR Championships on Thursday the 7th of August at the State Football Centre in Darebin. Thanks to guest coach and ex-student Sienna for stepping in to hold down the fort!
