What's Happening in Grade 2?

Term 3 has been an incredibly productive time for our Grade 2 students, filled with exciting history activities and hands-on learning across all subject areas. 

In Inquiry, our young historians explored personal histories by using their own childhood photos to build personal life timelines, sorting historical images into past and present categories, and hand-crafting their own olden-day toys. 

This learning linked perfectly with English, where students developed their recount writing skills by sequencing real-life events to document their school holidays, weekly classroom activities, specialist sessions, and Friday class sports. 

Over in Mathematics, students strengthened their mental strategies by working on split strategies for two-digit addition and subtraction, practicing tens jumps and ones hops on open number lines, and acting as shape detectives to identify the flat 2D shapes that make up 3D objects. 

A major highlight of the term was our special 100 Days of School milestone, where students headed to the gym with Miss Emily for a series of high-energy fitness challenges all built around the number 100. 

Throughout all of these fantastic activities, our Grade 2 students have done an excellent job embodying our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework, explicitly practicing what our core value of respect looks and sounds like in the classroom, out on the playground, and during specialist classes.
