Junior and Senior ICCES Debating Teams Selected
Following the outstanding success of our recent Apex Debating Competition, where both our Junior and Senior teams were crowned regional champions and have progressed to the Grand Final, students at Moama Anglican Grammar are once again preparing to showcase their skills in another prestigious debating competition.
Mrs Grant and Ms Patten are currently in the process of selecting Junior and Senior students to represent MAG at the ICCES Debating Competition, which will be held in Ballarat on Tuesday, 28 July. A selection of students have recently received their debate topics and have already begun researching and preparing arguments.
This year's topics are:
Junior Debate
- "That schools should replace traditional homework with compulsory after-school study sessions."
- "That the ATAR system should be overhauled."
Senior Debate
- "That Australia should introduce compulsory national service for all school leavers."
- "That professional athletes should receive a life ban for cheating"
Unlike the local Apex Competition, the ICCES Debating Competition brings together schools from across the Independent Country Co-educational Schools (ICCES) network. Students compete against a range of independent schools in a formal debating setting, requiring them to analyse complex issues, construct logical and persuasive arguments, anticipate opposing viewpoints and confidently present their ideas before an adjudicator.
Participation in debating develops a wide range of valuable lifelong skills, including:
- Critical and analytical thinking
- Public speaking and confidence
- Research and evidence-based reasoning
- Teamwork and collaboration
Active listening and respectful rebuttal
With limited preparation time before the competition, students will be committing to lunchtime rehearsals and additional practice sessions as they refine their speeches and work collaboratively with their teammates.
At Moama Anglican Grammar, we are proud to provide students with opportunities that challenge them beyond the classroom and encourage them to become articulate, thoughtful and confident communicators. Cross Country Championships Wrap Up
Over the school holidays, our Moama Anglican Grammar cross country athletes proudly represented the School at two major championship events.
20 June – Victorian All Schools Cross Country Championships
In wet and muddy conditions in Melbourne, Esther Griffiths placed 42nd in the Under 15 Girls 4km event, while Harry Saunders finished 41st in the Under 15 Boys 4km event. Congratulations to both students on their outstanding efforts.
25 June – NSW Combined Independent Schools (CIS) Cross Country Championships
Twenty MAG students travelled to Sydney after qualifying through the Riverina Associated Schools or Border Independent Primary and Secondary School Association Championships.
A special congratulations to Laura Stone, who finished 8th in the 14 Girls 4km event to qualify for the NSW State Cross Country Championships in August.

NSW All Schools Football Team Selection
Congratulations to Ryan Strahan, Sophie Millar, Chloe Ryan and Hannah Sara on their selection in the NSW All Schools Football Team.
The students will represent New South Wales at the Under 14 National Championships in Melbourne from 25 to 31 July, competing against some of the country's most talented young athletes.
This outstanding achievement reflects their hard work, dedication and commitment to their sport. Earning selection at a national representative level is a significant honour and recognition of their efforts and performances.
We are incredibly proud of Ryan, Sophie, Chloe and Hannah and wish them every success as they represent NSW on the national stage.
Students Embrace Challenge at Inaugural Independent Country Co-Educational Schools(ICCES) Winter Tour
Moama Anglican Grammar School was proud to take part in the inaugural ICCES Winter Tour, held in Shepparton last Thursday 18 – Friday 19 June across two challenging days of netball, basketball, hockey and soccer.
Thursday's conditions tested everyone's resolve, with rain setting in shortly before lunch and refusing to ease for the remainder of the day. Friday brought its own challenge in the form of icy conditions, though thankfully the rain stayed away, allowing competition to continue in slightly kinder circumstances.
Despite the weather, our students competed with great determination across all four sports. A standout moment came from our first hockey team, which secured a fantastic win in its debut appearance. Our Junior Boys and Junior Girls basketball teams both fought their way through to the grand final. While a win was not to be on this occasion, reaching the final in their first tour was a brilliant achievement. Our soccer players faced some tough opposition across the two days, coming away with a mixed bag of results that reflected the strength of the competition.
As an inaugural event, the tour marked a wonderful new chapter in our school's involvement in the ICCES calendar, and our students represented Moama Anglican Grammar School with pride from start to finish.
A huge thank you to our incredible staff, who coached and supported our teams through rain, ice and everything in between across the two days. To our students, well done on competing with such spirit and for the compassion and integrity you showed one another throughout the tour. We could not be prouder.
Netball Teams Display Resilience at Independent Country Co-Educational Schools (ICCES) Winter Challenge
Resilience was on display in abundance from all the netball girls who competed in the Independent Country Co-Educational Schools (ICCES) Winter Netball Challenge. The challenging weather conditions were wet, cold and blustery, testing the skills and determination of all three teams that participated.
Our Senior girls' team competed strongly throughout the two-day tournament, and all participants had a positive experience.
The Year 9 and 10 team started the tournament with three straight wins, losing only to the eventual winners, Goulburn Valley Grammar.
The Year 7 and 8 team performed extremely well, progressing through to the semi-final before going down in a highly contested match.
The ICCES Winter Challenge was a wonderful opportunity to play netball, develop skills and grow friendships. Thank you to all the organisers for putting together such an outstanding event.
Student Spotlight
Over the school holidays, Leni, Addi and Mayli Coburn travelled to Sydney to represent Victoria at the Australian Gymnastics Championships held at Sydney Olympic Park.
Leni represented Victoria in the National Level 6 Women's Tumbling event. Leni made the finals and placed an impressive 5th overall, finishing as the highest placed Victorian competitor. This was a great achievement in her first National Championships.
Mayli represented Victoria in the National Level 5 Women's Tumbling event. At just eight years old, Mayli was the youngest competitor across the entire event. She narrowly missed a finals position by 0.2 points but placed 20th overall in a field of 53 gymnasts, finishing as the equal second-highest placed Victorian competitor.
Addison represented Victoria in the Under 13 International Tumbling division. This was Addi's third time representing her state at the National Championships, but her first time competing in the International division. Addi progressed through Final 1 and then Final 2, securing the bronze medal and finishing as the highest placed Victorian competitor. It was a very exciting outcome for Addi.
We are very proud of all three girls for representing Victoria with pride. They now continue training for their next national event, where they will represent Palmers Gym at the National Clubs Championships on the Gold Coast in September.
