Term 3 - Week 4

Indonesian Day @ MPRPS

Selamat Siang Semuanya! Indonesian Day or "Hari Indonesia" is just around the corner! Next Thursday 15th August we will be dressing up in Indonesian inspired clothing or Merah dan Putih (Red and White). Parents and carers are welcome to join us for an extra special Indonesian Day Recess Radio Cultural Performance at 2:10 in the courtyard. Entry & sign in via the front office. Sampai Jumpa!

Assembly Update

Thank you families for your patience and support over the last couple of weeks. We appear to have turned a corner with absence reducing with our staff and students. In light of this we will not hold Assembly for another week. The School Leader are conducting travelling assembly and presenting awards. Classes that were going to present at Assembly have been recorded by their teacher and this will be uploaded via Seesaw.

Great Book Swap is Back

Every school who registers for the Great Book Swap is assigned one of five Aboriginal language houses named after animal characters found in the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) books.

We are part of Marntuwunyini House. Marntuwunyini translates to dugong in Tiwi, a language spoken by approximately 2000 Tiwi people, most of whom reside on the Tiwi Islands, north of Darwin in the Northern Territory. The many members of our house around Australia have so far raised a total of $2365. If you would like to directly donate to Marntuwunyini House head to: https://edu.greatbookswap.org.au/donate

Thank you to all those families who have donated pre-loved books. We are accepting donations until Friday 23rd August. It would be great to have a large range of chapter books as well as picture story books.

Artist in Residence Program - Sam Richards

We are so excited to be having Sam Richards (Connecting Two Worlds), working with our 3/4 students this semester. Already, we have had an introductory session and we learned a little more about Sam’s culture and connection to both Wurundjeri and Dja Dja Wurrung Tribes. To support her work with us, we applied for an “Artists in School Program” through the Whitehorse City Council, and were successful! Through our work with Sam, we hope to build greater cultural and historical understanding of Aboriginal perspectives and hope to showcase some of that learning through shared artworks throughout the school.

ICE Semester Two

ICE is due to kick off in Week 7 (Friday 30th August)! Woohoo! The list of activities and costs will have been shared with students today with their classroom teacher and our Google Form preference list will be shared on year 3-6 student Google Classrooms on Monday 12th August at 6.30pm. These forms must be completed with an adult present. Once all responses are collected and groups are formed, we will use Sentral activities to share final groups in the coming weeks.
