Congratulations to Callum!
Congratulations to Callum Liew from Class 4B on his outstanding performance at the Oz Schools Instrumental Championships (OSIC) last weekend! Callum represented both CGPS and Victoria in the Grades 3–4 category in Drums and achieved a second place finish. Well done Callum!
Carlton Gardens Primary School Chess Team – Junior Grand Final Success!
We’re excited to share the fantastic results from the Junior Inter-School Chess Grand Final, held at Brendan Park Primary School. The tournament brought together over 100 Prep–Grade 3 players from 52 schools, making it one of the most competitive junior events of the year.
Carlton Gardens proudly fielded a full junior squad, allowing us to enter the championship as a school team. Our young players showed impressive focus, determination, and maturity at the boards. Their hard work paid off, with CGPS earning two major individual trophies:
- Ryan Subhash – Prep Top Player Trophy
- Aidan Batyrbekov – Top Year 2 Trophy
Both students delivered exceptional performances throughout the tournament, staying calm under pressure and demonstrating consistent, high-quality chess. Well done to the entire CGPS Junior Primary team!
Additionally, over the weekend of 6–7 December, our CGPS Chess Team will proudly represent the school at the National Championship, joining top primary and secondary school teams flying into Melbourne from across Australia. To help all Victorian finalists prepare, including 2 secondary schools, 2 girls’ schools, and 2 primary schools, we secured a state grant that enables students to train with a Grandmaster and an International Master in the lead-up to and throughout the event! This is a first for Victorian school chess and a wonderful boost for every team involved, and families and students alike are thrilled to see this level of support from the state!
