School Council Update

CGPS Newsletter: School Council Update
Your CGPS School Council
The CGPS School Council will now provide regular updates – once per term – so you can stay informed about our work and opportunities to get involved.
Since our last update, we have continued to work on improving road safety around our school. We have been in touch with the Minister for Roads and Road Safety, the Minister for Transport Infrastructure & Public and Active Transport, and the City of Melbourne. We are pleased that our local MP, Ms Ellen Sandel, raised our concerns in the Parliament of Victoria on 10 September. The traffic conditions around our school are currently being monitored, and we are hopeful that we will see improvements as we continue to work towards better road safety around our school in 2026.
Also, this term the subcommittees have begun their work, and we’re thrilled to see the energy and ideas flowing. A huge thank you to our subcommittee chairs and members for their commitment and creativity. They’re already working on an initiative which will happen this term!

School Picnic & Icy Pole Day – Friday 12 December
Please join the Fundraising and Community Engagement Sub-Committees for a school-wide celebration on Friday, 12 December. We’ll be hosting an Icy Pole Day after school in the school yard, followed by a whole-school picnic in Carlton Gardens Park.
Families can pre-purchase icy poles on Compass, and students and parents can collect them in the yard at dismissal before heading to the picnic. Don’t forget to pre-order your icy poles by Thursday December 4! Each icy pole costs $3, and the funds raised will go towards improvements in our school playground.
For the picnic, bring some food to share if you’re able. Feel free to stop by our Community Engagement picnic blanket to scan a QR code to join next year’s student contact list. We’d also love to chat with you about your ideas and hopes for community engagement in 2026.
The event is for all students, families, teachers, and staff – everyone is welcome!

We’re very grateful to everyone who has stepped forward to volunteer their time on our subcommittees. Your efforts help create an environment that benefits all the students of CGPS, and which we can all enjoy.
