Learning in Year 5

Grade 5 has had a fantastic few final weeks of Term 1 wrapping up our Integrated Unit, Voices of the People!

To celebrate, students took part in an exciting incursion all about government and democracy. This hands on session brought together everything they’ve been learning this term.

Students explored the three levels of government, learned how our Parliament works, and then put their knowledge into action. The highlight was an interactive election, where students used preferential voting and discovered how a winner is decided. They also stepped into the roles of politicians in a fun Parliament role play through forming parties, debating ideas, and passing their own “laws” using costumes and props!

It was a great way to revise and apply their learning in a fun, memorable way.

In the last week of school, students also got to participate in a guided tour of the Victorian State Parliament hosted by our local MP, Mr Nick McGowan. This real-world experience helped bring their classroom learning to life. Students also enjoyed a visit to the city fire station, where they toured the fire trucks and even had a turn spraying the water cannons!

This Term students are very excited for their upcoming trip to PGL Campaspe Downs. With activities like flying fox, canoeing, archery and laser tag, it promises to be an action-packed experience. Camp is a great opportunity for students to build independence, resilience and friendships, all while enjoying the outdoors.

Camp information and a packing list have been sent home this week.
