Learning in Year 2

Welcome Back
Welcome back to all our Year 2 students! We’ve had a fantastic start to the term and it has been wonderful hearing about everyone’s lovely holidays. The students have returned with great enthusiasm, and we are looking forward to all the exciting learning and experiences ahead this term.
English
We have begun exploring persuasive writing, focusing on its structure and how we can use language to convince others, something we are already very good at when it comes to persuading our parents! We have also continued developing our literary appreciation through engaging with rich texts and discussing the ideas, characters, and messages within them.
Mathematics
We have been very impressed with our mathematicians as they demonstrate their understanding of place value. We are working with numbers into the thousands, using MAB blocks to build and represent them. Students are also practising ordering numbers, as well as partitioning and breaking numbers apart to deepen their understanding.
Integrated
We have been learning about ANZAC Day, exploring why it is commemorated, how people honour this important day, and discovering some interesting facts about its significance. We are also beginning our new topic, Wild and Wacky Weather, and are excited to investigate different weather patterns and conditions.
Wellbeing
We are finishing the final part of our URSTRONG unit, which has supported students in developing positive friendships and understanding how to build and maintain healthy relationships. Information about the upcoming URSTRONG parent evening will be shared soon.
